KALKASKA — Mike O'Brien scored 18 points Friday night as Glen Lake topped Boyne City 57-52 in the Northwest Conference-Lake Michigan Conference Crossover Challenge.

Logan LaCross and Curtis Bunek added 12 points apiece for the Lakers (1-1), who outscored the Ramblers 17-9 in the third quarter to take a 39-33 lead.

Corey Redman's 14 points and 11 rebounds paced Boyne City (1-1). Maceo Vroman netted 11 points and Cole Butler 10.

BOYS HOOPS

Cadillac      53 McBain      42

McBain (1-1) rallied in the third quarter to pull within a point of host Cadillac, but the Vikings maintained a lead and went on to post a 53-42 victory.

A driving layup from junior guard Grant Gugle capped a 14-4 run and brought the Ramblers to within 37-36 in the final minute of the quarter. Matthew Ward, who scored 11, drained a jumper for Cadillac, however, to spark a Viking run that pushed the lead to double digits by the midway point of the final period.

Nick Paquet paced the Vikings (2-0) with 23 points, including four treys. Matt Adams added 11.

Senior Hunter Powell produced 18 points to pace McBain and fellow seniors Jared Larr and Trevor Lutke hit for 13 and six.

Northport      46 Lake Leelanau SM      42

Bill Stowe hit a driving lay-up and drew a foul for a three-point play that gave Northport the lead for good with 45 seconds left in a 46-42 win over Lake Leelanau St. Mary's.

Stowe scored a game-high 27 points and Jacob Brown added 13.

Drew Pobuda scored 12 points to lead St. Mary's, while Brandon McSawby had 10.

Lake Leelanau travels Tuesday to Mesick.

Charlevoix      53 Kingsley      45

Tanner Catt scored a game-high 16 points to lead Charlevoix to a 53-45 victory over Kingsley in the Lake Michigan-Northwest Crossover Challenge.

Sawyer Russell added eight points and five rebounds and Zach Hankins had eight points at six boards for the Rayders (1-0), who host Gaylord on Tuesday.

Charlevoix led 23-21 at halftime and expanded that lead to nine by the end of the third quarter.

Scott McPherson led Kingsley (1-1) with eight points.

Elk Rapids      51 Leland      49

Elk Rapids survived for a 51-49 win over Leland in the Lake Michigan-Northwest Crossover Challenge.

Cole Walker led the Elks (1-1) with 12 points and Austin McMullen added 10.

A.J. Whittaker paced Leland with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Tyler Leveque scored 12 and Ian Duvall 10.

The Comets (0-1) host Traverse City Christian on Tuesday. The Elks host Kingsley on Tuesday.

Bear Lake      77 Walkerville      27

Bear Lake scored early and often in a 77-27 victory over Walkerville to open the season.

Josh Metiva led the Lakers with 20 points and four rebounds.

Nick Streeter added 13 points and Riley Merrill had 11 points and four boards.

Bear Lake (1-0) led 27-7 after one quarter and 46-15 at halftime, holding Walkerville to just two point in the third stanza. The Lakers travel Tuesday to Northport.

Brighton frosh      45 TC Central frosh      24

Brighton's freshmen earned a 45-24 win over TC Central's freshmen.

The Trojans had eight points from Mason Houston. Brighton stays in town to play TC West today.

C Bulldogs      56 GT Academy      26

Casie and Sarah Plamondon put up big nights to help the Traverse City Bulldogs improve to 4-1 with a 56-26 victory over Grand Traverse Academy.

Casie Plamondon scored 20 points and added six steals, while Sarah Plamondon chipped in 18 points, seven rebounds and six steals.

Dakota Morgan led GT Academy with eight points.

The Bulldogs travel Monday to Leland.

Charlevoix     59 Harbor Springs     48

Madeline Boss had 25 points, 14 rebounds, five steals and three blocks as Charlevoix upended Harbor Springs 59-48 in a Lake Michigan Conference opener.

Kourtney Putman added 10 points and Sidney Carlson six assists for the Rayders (2-1, 1-0).

Bellaire     40 Central Lake     33

Katie Thornton scored 16 points, hitting 10 of 15 free throws, as Bellaire defeated Central Lake 40-33 in a Ski Valley Conference contest.

Thornton was 6 of 8 at the line in the fourth quarter after the Trojans had closed to within two.

Mariah Cords added eight points for the Eagles (2-0, 1-0). Jaynee Mortensen's 11 points paced Central Lake (2-2, 0-2). Haley Bearden chipped in eight.

Joburg-Lewiston      66 Forest Area      35

Johannesburg-Lewiston posted a 66-35 Ski Valley Conference victory over Forest Area to improve to 3-0.

Brittany Cherwinski led the Cardinals with 18 points, while Hannah Huff added 10 points and eight rebounds and Abby Schlicher chipped in nine points, three assists and six steals. Madison Showerman had four steals and three blocks.

Emily Gonyer paced Forest Area with 10 points, and Kortni Birgy had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Joburg (3-0, 2-0 SVC) hosts East Jordan in a non-conference game Monday.

Ellsworth     39 Wolverine     30

Kari Steenwyck's double-double powered Ellsworth to a 39-30 Northern Lakes Conference win over Wolverine.

Steenwyck had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Kendra Warner chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.

Brandi Whittaker's 11 points topped Wolverine.

Ellsworth (1-2, 1-0) travels to Alanson on Wednesday.
