TRAVERSE CITY — It was another tough test for Traverse City West on Tuesday.
The host Titans came up on the short end of a non-conference tilt against Midland, with the Chemics earning a 53-28 victory.
TC West (0-2) previously lost to defending Class A state champ Grand Haven.
In Tuesday's game, Midland had 22 points from junior Jess Walter, who is committed to Indiana. Lily Hani also scored 16 points.
Paris Wagner and Lauren Ellison each had seven points for the Titans, who were playing without Katie Placek.
TC West is at Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills on Saturday.
Midland won the freshman game 26-25 in overtime. Makenna Mattson paced West with nine points. Talia Polmann added seven.
Glen Lake 53 Elk Rapids 49
Glen Lake held off Elk Rapids for a 53-49 non-conference victory.
The Lakers (3-1) had 21 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals, three assists and a block from Scotlyn Brengman. Katie Stowe had 10 points, Jordan Peplinski had seven points, eight rebounds and three steals while Maddie Brown came off the bench for 12 rebounds.
Elk Rapids (1-1) had 13 points each from Rachel Hintz and Paige Granger.
Benzie Central 68 Manistee 63
Host Benzie Central picked up its first win of the season with a 68-63 victory over Manistee.
The Chippewas led 18-10 after the first quarter and were up 10 early in the second before the Huskies (1-2) poured it on with 27 points before the break for a 37-36 halftime lead. From there, Benzie Central held a slim lead the rest of the way.
Makayla Huddleston led the Huskies with 17 points while Jordan Nye had 16 points, seven steals and three assists. Sara Goodchild had 12 points and 11 rebounds while Paige Sauer had 10 points.
Manistee had 20 points from freshman Emilee Kott while sophomore Annie Fuller had 12 points.
Lake City 50 Suttons Bay 33
Elizabeth Buttis had 13 points and 15 rebounds as Lake City topped Suttons Bay 50-33 in a non-conference contest.
Laraiah Schichtel and Makayla Schichtel added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Trojans.
Lake City led 24-9 at half.
Jane Hursey paced Suttons Bay with 14 points. Beedoskah Stonefish contributed 12 points. The Norse host Glen Lake on Thursday.
Manistee Catholic 63 Leland 43
Haley Doyle's 23 points led Manistee Catholic Central to a 63-43 non-conference win over Leland.
The Sabers also had 16 points from Alysha Heck.
For Leland, Caitlin McKee had 16 points while Libby Munoz had 14 points and five assists.
Bear Lake 64 TC Bulldogs AA 44
Emileigh Ferguson scored 26 points as Bear Lake beat the Traverse City Bulldogs 64-44.
Casie Plamondon scored 16 points, Molly Plamondon 13 and Sarah Plamondon 10 for the Bulldogs, who travel to Northport on Thursday.
Gaylord St. Mary 71 Alanson 44
Gaylord St. Mary earned a 71-44 season opening win over Alanson.
The Snowbirds (1-0) had 16 points apiece from Matt Spyhalski, Nick Lochinski and Nick Harrington.
Alanson had 18 points from Kody Wicker.
Cadillac 67 Reed City 61
Cadillac posted a 67-61 win over Reed City in a hard-fought season opener.
The Vikings (1-0) had 24 points from Jalen Brooks while Nick Paquet scored 19 points. Kyle Wright led Reed City with 13 points.
Cadillac hosts McBain on Friday.
Manton 44 Brethren 37
Manton earned a 44-37 non-conference win over Brethren.
The Rangers (1-0) had 12 points from Alex Powell while Keefe Brotherton had 11 points and Matt Skiver chipped in nine points.
Manton plays Buckley next Tuesday.
Grayling 65 Roscommon 35
Grayling jumped out to a 32-18 halftime lead and didn't look back in a 65-35 victory over Roscommon.
The Vikings (1-0) were paced by 22 points from Jake Swander. Scott Parkinson had 18 points and seven rebounds and Justice Junttila added eight points. Tyler McClanahan had six assists and seven steals.
Grayling plays Benzie Central at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Northwest vs. Lake Michigan Conference Crossover Challenge.
Central Lake 34 Ellsworth 21
After a slow start from both teams, Central Lake came away with a 34-21 victory over Ellsworth.
The Trojans (1-0) led 15-10 at halftime.
Central Lake junior Will Brockman led the way with 11 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Matt Sexton also had 10 points.
GT Academy 42 Cadillac Heritage 41
Tyler Floering hit a free throw with one second left as Grand Traverse Academy edged Cadillac Heritage 42-41 in a boys basketball opener.
Mitchell Drilling led the Mustangs with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Max Boothroyd added 11 points and Floering nine points and four steals.
Quinn Crago paced Cadillac Heritage with 26 points.
The Mustangs face the Traverse City Bulldogs on Friday.
East Jordan 82 Mancelona 70
East Jordan hit 17 3-pointers in posting an 82-70 season-opening win over Mancelona.
Joe Manville led the Red Devils with 22 points, 10 defensive rebounds and five steals. Matt Bolser added 18 points and Jordan Weber and Noah Baccus 15 apiece.
Brandon Dingman tossed in 28 points, Brandon Scott 16 and Wyatt Derrer 11 for Mancelona.
East Jordan, which led 48-34 at half, faces Buckley in the Northwest Conference-Lake Michigan Conference Crossover Challenge this weekend.
TC Christian 67 Buckley 25
Four players scored in double figures as Traverse City Christian beat Buckley 67-25 in a season-opening clash.
Paul Bump netted 13 points, Kris Crosby and Jesse Heerdt 12 and A.J. Weber 10 for the Sabres, who host Boyne Falls on Thursday.
Austin Burmania scored 10 points for Buckley.
Lake City 66 Mesick 32
Lake City had six players score between eight and 12 points as the host Trojans won their season opener 66-32 over Mesick.
Junior guard Drew Marion paced the scoring ledger with 12 points while Ryan Vincent and Nate Holt each tallied 10 and Dylan Allard, Dan Liestenfeltz and freshman Lucas Marion each scored eight. Rhett Thompson hit for six off the bench.
Andre Whittaker put 10 on the board for the Bulldogs and Lance Baller hit for eight.
TC Bulldogs 44 Burt Lake NMCA 41
The Traverse City Bulldogs home school team beat Burt Lake NMCA 44-41.
Aaron Chatfield had 31 points, five steals and five rebounds in the loss. Robert Taylor added 10 points and Josiah Fosmore 10 rebounds.
