Prep Softball Roundup: Hursey pitches Suttons Bay to sweep

TRAVERSE CITY — Jane Hursey pitched Suttons Bay to 11-2 and 6-1 non-league wins over Traverse Christian on Friday.

Hursey struck out 22 in the twinbill.

She also had two hits and two RBIs in both games for the Norse (10-13). Hannah Wermuth had four hits and scored all three runs on the day for Christian (7-15), which plays Kingsley in a pre-district Tuesday at St. Elizabeth.


Central Lake 13 10

Charlevoix 6 0

Alexis Carpenter pitched a one-hitter, striking out 10, as Central Lake beat Charlevoix 10-0 in the nightcap of a twinbill.

Mariah Cordes had three hits, including a home run for the Trojans. Delaney Buffman scored four times. Allie Hines drove in three runs.

Hines tossed a five-hitter in the opener, a 13-6 win for the Trojans. Cordes, Channing Hoogerhyde and Emma Pierson homered in the game.

LL St. Mary 3 15

Onekama 7 3

Megan Popp pitched a five-hitter, allowing one earned run, as Lake Leelanau St. Mary defeated Onekama 15-3 in the nightcap of a doubleheader.

Popp helped her own cause with two hits and an RBI. Mary Rexroat also delivered a hit and an RBI.

Onekama won the opener 7-3 despite the fact Popp surrendered just one earned run. Rexroat led the Eagles with two hits and three RBIs. Sydney Heerit earned the win for Onekama. Maddy Smeltzer had two hits.

St. Mary (22-8-1) travels to Bellaire on Wednesday.
