Prep Sports Roundup: Glen Lake takes title

BUCKLEY — Glen Lake clinched the Northwest Conference baseball title Friday with a 14-0 and 15-0 sweep of Buckley.

Thomas Waning pitched a no-hitter in the opener, striking out 14. He walked one.

Tristan Williams led the Lakers (25-2-1, 10-1-1) with three hits. Waning, Riley Scanlon and Trevor Apsey all added two hits. Apsey drove in three runs. Austin Odziana belted a two-run homer.

Logan LaCross smacked a grand slam to pave the way in the nightcap. Zach Cooper tossed a one-hitter in the three inning contest. He struck out eight.

Williams had three more hits for the Lakers while Waning, Apsey and Odziana picked up two. Apsey drove in three runs.

Glen Lake hosts Suttons Bay in a pre-district Tuesday

Caleb Wetherholt singled in Tyler Newell in the fifth inning to give Kingsley a 4-3 win over Suttons Bay in the nightcap of a doubleheader, denying the Norsemen a league co-championship.

The Norsemen (16-6-1, 9-2-1) finished a game behind Glen Lake.

Wetherholt finished with two RBIs in the game and Scott McPherson one. Newell and Derrek Arlt each scored twice. Landon Leach picked up the win and Matt Bartz the save

Trevor Petroskey led Suttons Bay with two hits and two RBIs. Logan Mikesell added two hits and one RBI. The Norsemen had runners at second and third with one out in the sixth, but could not score.

Suttons Bay scored three runs in the fifth to win the opener 3-2. Mikesell singled in the first run, then Shamus McGill singled in two to win it. Mikesell was the winning pitcher.

Kingsley (21-8-1), which plays Elk Rapids on Tuesday, scored its two runs in the top of the fifth on hits by Bartz and Nick Jurgess.

Jack Garthe came within an out of a no-hitter as Lake Leelanau St. Mary beat Onekama 14-1 in the first of two games.
