Prep Sports Roundup: Leland clinches league soccer title

MAPLE CITY — Leland beat Glen Lake 3-1 Thursday to win the Greater Northwest soccer title outright.

The Comets finished the conference season at 8-0-2.

Libby Munoz netted two goals, pushing her season total to 50. Her first tally came on a penalty kick. Whitney Schaub also scored for Leland (19-2-2). Delaney Drake and Mariela Corona drew assists. Clare Slack scored for Glen Lake.

Ogemaw Heights 0

Traverse City West went undefeated in the Big North Conference for the first time in school history after blanking Ogemaw Heights 9-0 in the regular season finale.

Kiley Kreple led the Titans with three goals and two assists. Runa Hafnor added two goals and two assists. Summer Slack, Lexi Moyer, Jordan Balhorn and Kari Cannon chipped in the other goals for West. Mikaela Ray tallied two assists, while Slack, Eva Brunetti and Mikenna Ray had assists as well.

Maggie Troost was in goal for the Titans (15-1-2, 12-0 Big North). West meets TC Central in a district opener on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Coast Guard Field.

Alpena 0

Lily Stackable recorded a first-half hat trick and Traverse City Central outshot Alpena 20-0 in defeating the Wildcats 8-0.

Katie Ludwig, Enrica Gullo, Grace Stanton, Jalyna Cisneros and Jennifer Rose also scored for the Trojans, who enacted the mercy on Rose’s goal with 8:56 to play in the second half. Julianna Chang and Ally Wuerfel each contributed two assists, while Kalina Pfannenstiel, Ludwig and Cisneros also had assists.

Olivia Luciani and Sierra Fraser led Central’s defense. Keeper duties went to Carrie Wynkoop and Abby Weckler.

The Trojans finish the regular season 8-12-1 overall and 5-6-1 in the Big North. They host Traverse City West in district play on Tuesday.

Central won the junior varsity game 4-0.

Brittany Collins had two goals to lead the Trojans (10-7-2), and Greta Groothius and Abby Green had the other scores. Maitland Adams had two assists. Stevie Herbers, Dana Pfulghoeft, Katie Ferguson and Adams all spent time in the net.
