Sports in Brief: TC Blue Stars win Spring Classic

KINGSLEY — The Traverse City Blue Stars 11U baseball team won the Northern Michigan Spring Classic held in Kingsley, going 5-0 for the weekend and beating host Kingsley in a hard-fought championship game 2-1.

Corbin Domres, Braiden Voss, and Charlie Peterson combined for the victory on the mound for the Blue Stars.

The Blue Stars 13U team is hosting the 2nd Annual Blue Star Classic this weekend at the Civic Center in Traverse City. The six-team tournament begins Saturday at 9 a.m. with the championship game slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday.


TRAVERSE CITY — Run Traverse City presents the Vine & Wine 7 Miler on Sunday, June 1 at Brengman Brothers at Crain Hill Vineyards. Starting time is 11 a.m.

The $15 cost includes a post-run glass of wine, a $5 donation to TART Trails to help maintain the Leelanau Trail, and a drawing for prizes. TRAVERSE CITY — The summer session of the Traverse Area Running Club starts Monday, June 16.

Club members will meet Monday through Friday at 8 a.m. at the Dog Park on the corner of Division Street and Grandview Parkway. The eight week program will conclude on Friday, August 8.

The goals of the club are to promote running as a lifestyle, assist athletes in building endurance regardless of their sport, and offer a noncompetitive, low-key approach to training that builds comradery among club members. Any area middle school or high school age individual is welcome to join. Levels of conditioning based on current fitness, from beginners to seasoned athletes, will be offered. Adult group leaders will accompany club members on their daily run. The cost is $25 for the eight-week session or $20 each if more than one family member joins. Members receive a tech t-shirt, log chart, weekly treats and an end-of-summer picnic. Brochures are available at both Running Fit locations. Adult volunteers are welcome to assist.
