Madison Jenner scored a hat trick and also tacked on an assist to lead the Titans in Thursday’s win at West High School. Kiley Kreple accounted for three assists, including on Jenner’s last two goals in the last four minutes of the game.

“I just felt really motivated when I was going out on the field,” said Jenner, who notched the go-ahead score with 3:15 remaining in the first half. “It felt like it was going to be a really good game.”

The contest was tight well into the second half as the Titans opened it up in the last 12 minutes of action, scoring three times in that span. Before that — particularly in the first half — West was in the midst of a tough battle with its crosstown rival.

“I can’t quite pinpoint what it was in the beginning,” West coach Lauran Pinto said. “It seems to be a general trend for us that once we start relaxing we play better. In the beginning we weren’t winning air balls as much as we normally do and Central was putting on high pressure and we let it kind of bring our game down a bit. Once we started seeing that we could score some goals, they started flowing a little better.”

Runa Hafnor, Mikaela Ray and Erica Whiting had the other goals for the Titans (12-1-1). Katie Placek and Ellie Taplin added assists.

Grace Stanton notched Central’s goal, with 7:51 to go in the first half, with an assist to Kalina Pfannenstiel that tied the score 1-1. The game stayed deadlocked until Jenner’s first score four minutes later.
