Omaha selects Froese in draft
TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City’s Kyle Froese, a defenseman for the Corpus Christi Ice Rays last season, was selected in the fourth round in Phase II of the United States Hockey League draft by Omaha on Tuesday. Froese had six goals and 16 assists in 55 games for the Ice Ray during the 2013-14 campaign.
On Monday, Gaylord St. Mary sophomore Casey Gilling was selected in the seventh round in the Phase I portion of the draft by the Muskegon Lumberjacks. A forward, the 16-year-old played for the Soo Indians Midget Major squad last season, registering 48 points (19 goals and 29 assists) in 56 games.
Ten North Stars picked for Games
TRAVERSE CITY — Ten members of the Traverse City North Stars girls hockey program were selected to play on Team North in the upcoming State Games of Michigan.
The players, representing the Grand Traverse Hockey Association, include Lillian Klinetop, Katie Dubro, Mary Chesney, Gabrielle Fournier, Megan Lautner, Alyssa Huiskens, Adriannah Letts, Angelina Polomsky, Alexis Smith and Haley Bryant.
Elle VanAntwerp, Taylor Lundberg and Katlin Roop were selected as alternates.
The state games are June 20-22 in Grand Rapids. Six teams will compete for the gold.
