TRAVERSE CITY — Morgan Scollard had quite a day Friday.
So did the Traverse City Central girls.
Scollard won the 200-meter dash (26.54), placed second in the 100 (12.80) and was on two winning relays as Central edged East Kentwood 169-168 to capture the Division I-II title in the Ken Bell Invitational.
“That’s the first time we’ve beaten East Kentwood in several years,” Central coach Robyn Thompson said. “It was a very exciting day.”
Scollard, a junior, teamed with Makenna Beers, Courtney Cadotte and Savannah Champion to take the 400 (51.44) and 800 (1:48.59) relays.
“She had a fantastic day,” Thompson said of Scollard
Central also took the 3200 relay in a meet record time of 9:41.47. That team consisted of Katie Moses, Joy Reist, Jordan Mattarella and Lauren Marsh.
The Trojans were second in four events — Moses in the 800 (2:24.10), Madyson Basch in the 1600 (5:23.81), Carissa Bartkowiak in the high jump (5-0) and Graceanne Tarsa in the pole vault (9-6).
Beers took third in the long jump (16-7.5) and fourth in the 400 (1:03.32). Cadotte finished third in the 100 (12.9) and fourth in the 200 (27.38). Molly Peregrine and Ashley Ko placed third and fourth (11:07.66 and 11:21.96) in the 3200. Brianna Worthington came in third in the 300 hurdles (50.67) while Taylor Cobb took fourth in the discus (101-4).
East Kentwood was led by Sekayi Bracey, who captured the 100 (12.17) and long jump (19-1). Her mark in the long jump set a meet record and is one of the top 25 jumps in the nation this spring. Justice Craft won the shot put (39-2.25) and discus (118-6) for the Falcons.
The St. Francis girls claimed Division IV. Holly Bullough paced the Gladiators, winning the 400 (59.93) and 800 (2:18.14). Bullough anchored the 1600 relay that finished a close second to East Kentwood (4:13.75 to 4:13.81). Bullough was joined by Grace Meachum, Emily Weitzel and Erin McDonnell.
McDonnell added a third in the 800 (2:24.97). Bullough, Lauren McDonnell, Emily Gallagher and Erin McDonnell placed fourth in the 3200 relay (10:21.92).
