KALEVA — Northern Michigan Dragway is set for its 45th year of operation as the 2014 racing season starts on Saturday.
Action kicks off with opening day testing from 2-6 p.m. The following weekend will feature the first Saturday night bracket race event of the season, with time trials beginning at 6 p.m. on May 10.

Centre Ice hosting classes: In light of the successful Curling Open House and the community’s positive response to bringing the sport of curling to Traverse City, Centre Ice Arena will begin hosting curling classes in early May.
Classes will take place on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, May 2 through June 14, and may continue into the summer if the demand continues.
Each class will offer two hours of thorough on-ice curling instruction. Each class is $25 per person and class size is limited to 15 people.
Participants must register in advance for classes. Participation is open to people of varying athletic abilities and no special gear is required. All curling equipment is provided by Centre Ice Arena. Participants should dress warmly and bring clean athletic shoes.

Centre Ice Golf Scramble: Registration has begun for the Centre Ice Golf Scramble to be held on Saturday, May 31 at Elmbrook Golf Course in Traverse City.
Registration is at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Cost is $70 per person or $280 per four-person team and includes 18 holes of golf, riding cart and lunch. Chances to win prizes for longest drive and closest to the pin plus a silent auction will be included in the day’s activities, along with a putting challenge and hole-in-one shootout. Hole sponsorships are available for $100.
