EAST LANSING — Traverse City Central turned in quite a performance at Friday’s MSU Spartan Invitational as the Trojans won the 14-team meet.
The Trojans had a number of superlative performances but the top showing came in the shot put where John Piatek broke a meet record and recorded the top throw in the state this year with a toss of 56-8. It was one of two first-place finishes for Piatek and one of three wins the Trojans had on the day. Piatek also took the discus (162-4) and Central’s 3,200 relay team of Kyle Dotterrer, Keefer Edwards, Cam McAuliffe and Marco Morcotte posted a winning time of 8:11.52.
Central scored 130.5 points to run away with the meet. Williamston finished a distant second with 74, followed by Grand Ledge (69), Okemos (63.5) and Davison (58.5) to round out the top five.
“Our team came down here and ran fast,” said Central boys coach John Lober. “It was a good team effort.”
Central earned huge points in the 1,600 run as McAuliffe finished second (4:27.85), Dotterrer was third (4:28.07) and Edwards was fourth (4:28.79).
