Track Roundup: West's Roush sets school record

From staff reports

GAYLORD — Tommy Roush set another school record as Traverse City West knocked off Big North Conference foes Cadillac and Gaylord in a double dual meet.

West defeated Cadillac 95.5-76.5 and Gaylord 97-60.

Roush — who broke the shot put record last week — this time set a new discus mark with a heave of 168’11”. He also won the shot with a 52’6” throw.

Connor Priest took the pole vault, clearing 11 feet. John Sheehan’s leap of 5’10” won the high jump.

Zach McGuire claimed the 100 in 11.5 seconds, and Jack Bishop took the 200 in 23.3.

West’s two other double winners came from the 400 and 800 relay teams. The 400 team of Cam Rainey, Dominic Teeples, Grant Balino and McGuire won in 45.8 ticks, while the 800 quartet of Dan Phifer, Donovan Michael, Teeples and Bishop took their race in 1:35.3.

The Titans compete Friday at the Graves-Swayze Relays in Midland.

John Piatek came close to two school records in leading Traverse City Central to a 136-27 dual-meet win over Ogemaw Heights.

Piatek won both the discus and shot put.

His discus heave of 164’4” was third in school history and his shot put throw of 55’1” was fourth. He won both events.

“He had a great day,” coach John Lober said. “Those are two of the best throws in the state.”

Max Knoblock also had a good day, winning the high jump (5’6”) and the 300 hurdles (43.8) and placing second in the 110 hurdles (17.01).

The Trojans won the 400 relay with a team of four freshmen — Devonte Walker, Terrell Solberg, Robbie Morse and Nic Norton — in 46.99 seconds.

The 800 relay team of Ryan Anderson, Trevor Wheeler, Morse and Jacob Leonard won in 1:41.36. Chris Brower, Tyler Sepanik, Zach Hankins and Clay Darling combined to win the 3,200 relay in 9:12.

In the 100, Walker (11.59), Solberg (12.04) and Zac Blake (12.08) swept the top three spots. Blake was also second in the high jump (5’4”).
