EAST LANSING — Alex Scott shot a 74 to tie for first overall as he led the Traverse City West boys golf team to an 11th-place finish Monday at the East Lansing Invitational at Walnut Hills.
Scott’s score was part of an effort that saw West fire a team score of 336. Jacob Martin and Matt Orwig came in with 87s and Seth Perrin carded an 88. East Lansing won the tournament with a score of 317.
Traverse City Central took 16th overall out of 22 teams. Derek Schrank had an 80 to lead the Trojans. Danny Brott fired an 82, Abe Lewis an 84 and Jordan Bultsma a 105.
West and Central are back on the links on Wednesday for the first Big North Conference meet of the season at the Cadillac Country Club.

Traverse City Christian swept Benzie Central to get back above .500 on the season.
The Sabres (3-2) had good hitting and pitching days from Jon Wilhelm and Cam Beemer.
Wilhelm picked up the 10-5 opening-game win and added four hits for the night, while Beemer pitched the 5-4 nightcap and had three hits.
TC Christian hosts McBain Northern Michigan Christian today.
Central Lake 0
Mancelona used an eight-run third inning to get past Central Lake 10-0.
The second game was postponed because of rain.
Kody Pinney went all five innings to get the win, allowing only two hits, striking out five and walking two. At the plate, Griffin Borst went 2-for-3, scoring a run and driving in three runs.
The Ironmen (3-0) are scheduled to face Rudyard today.
Gaylord St. Mary 2 4
Joburg 4 3
In its first action of the season, Gaylord St. Mary split a doubleheader with rival Johannesburg-Lewiston. Joburg took the first game 4-2 and St. Mary won the nightcap 4-3.
Joburg’s Colton Huff got the win in the opener, striking out six. He also helped his cause with two hits and two RBIs. Brendan Nowicki took the loss for the Snowbirds, allowing seven hits. He collected two hits at the plate.
