TRAVERSE CITY — Johnny Omahen earned his first victory of the year as the Traverse City Beach Bums won their fourth straight game with a 6-2 come-from-behind victory over the Joliet Slammers.
Omahen had started the season with an 0-3 record. It was also the first time in four starts he lasted over five innings, going six frames and striking out four while scattering six hits and walking just one.
The Beach Bums (15-11) trailed 2-1 going into the bottom of the sixth, and then scored four runs to take the lead.
Carlo Testa walked and Zach Kometani hit the first of his two triples to drive in a run. Marcus Nidiffer followed with an RBI single, and D’Marcus Ingram — who had his first multi-hit game in a TC uniform — added an RBI single. After a Ryan Still walk, Jose vargas walked with the bases loaded to force in a fourth run.
Taylor Wrenn belted a solo homer in the first first inning, and Nidiffer doubled in Kometani, who had again tripled to center field. Kometani was 3 for 4 for his third straight three-hit game to raise his batting average to .307. He has nine hits in his last 14 at-bats.
Mike Devine tossed two scoreless innings in relief, and Matt Miller made it through a bumpy ninth to preserve the win.
