YMCA to host family fun nights

TRAVERSE CITY — The YMCA is holding a series of Family Fun Nights this summer at the Y Main Facility at 3000 Racquet Club Drive.

The schedule is as follows:

n June 7 — “Family Camp Night”

Camp staff will lead the evening with camp activities, including a camp fire and roasting of s’mores.

n July 12 — “Family Y Games“

An evening filled with family outdoor games including sack races, human knot, volleyball and much more.

n August 2 — “Family Pig Roast”

A family pig roast will fill this evening with food and games.

Kona Ice will again join us.

Family Nights are held from 6-8 p.m. and include all-you-can-eat food, beverages, and snacks.

Admission is free to Y members and $15 per family for non-members.

Boating safety class offered June 25

Lake City —The Missaukee County Sheriff’s Office is holding a boating safety class on June 25 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 404 First Street in Lake City.

Students must be at least 12 years old and must bring a sack lunch.

Tigers help promote teen-driving safety

DETROIT — AAA Michigan, the Michigan State Police and the Detroit Tigers have teamed up to promote teen-driving safety with an event at Comerica Park in Detroit.

Representatives from each organization spoke Thursday morning at the home of the Tigers to outline efforts designed to encourage safe driving among teens this Memorial Day weekend.

Goalie Roy to coach Colorado Avalanche

DENVER — Hall of Fame goalie Patrick Roy is returning to the Colorado Avalanche as their head coach.

The team reached an agreement in principle Thursday with Roy to lead the Avs and also gave him the title of vice president of hockey operations.
