MARION, Ill. — Josh Miller’s two-out, eighth-inning double led Traverse City to a 5-4 come-from-behind victory to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Southern Illinois Miners.
Miller’s hit — his second of the night — brought in Rob Benedict and Casey Roche to give Traverse City a 5-4 lead going into the ninth.
Every Beach Bums position player had at least one hit. Jake Rhodes and Jeff DeBlieux each had a pair of hits.
Greg Harisis led off the game with a solo home run and Jeff DeBlieux rocketed a fifth-inning shot that gave the Beach Bums a 3-0 lead before Southern Illinois scored a pair of runs in the next two frames.
The Miners (22-17) went through five pitchers after starter Michael Carden lasted six innings and left with a 4-3 lead.
Ian MacDougall surrendered four runs in five innings, while Will Rankin picked up the win in relief with two scoreless frames. D.J. Johnson pitched two innings for only the second time this season, striking out two to earn his 11th save.
The Beach Bums (15-24) have today off before returning home for a six-game homestand starting Tuesday with River City (23-16) for three contests. Windy City (15-23) also visits next weekend for three games.
