Kreple earns honorable mention all-state

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City West senior forward Kiley Kreple was named Division 1 honorable mention all-state, the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association announced.

Kreple, who will play next season at Wisconsin-Parkside, was a key component to the Titans’ Big North Conference and district championships. West lost to Grand Blanc in the regional semifinals.

Four area players were first-team selections, including a pair of Charlevoix players on the Division 4 squad in junior defenseman Leah Davis and junior goalie Gloria Greene. Leland sophomore midfielder Libby Munoz also was part of the Division 4 team, while Cheboygan junior midfielder Amanda Paull was on the Division 3 first team.

Second team honors went to Cheboygan forward Sierra Kolatski, while Elk Rapids sophomore midfielder Nicole Hill and St. Francis junior midfielder Suzanne Britten were on the Division 4 team.

Third team picks were earned by Cadillac’s Gabrielle Sake in Division 2 and Glen Lake’s Clare Slack in Division 4.

Honorable mention went to Cadillac’s Abbey Fuller, Cheboygan’s Jessica Smith, Charlevoix’s Elizabeth Way and Kylee Scholten, Elk Rapids’ Carley Patterson, Glen Lake’s Sam Thompson, Harbor Springs’ Zoey Bezila and Shallon Graywey, Leland’s Whitney Schaub and St. Francis’s Macy Schwert.

TRACK

ACADEMIC ALL-STATE: Traverse City Central’s boys track team earned academic all-state honors with a 3.871 grade point average, the top grade point average among Division 1 teams in the state.

Traverse City West’s boys were fifth in Division 1 with a 3.692.

Other area schools that were on the academic list were: Benzie Central’s boys, third in Division 3 (3.66); Charlevoix’s boys, fourth in Division 3 (3.65); Benzie’s girls, fifth in Division 3 (3.81); Manton’s girls, third in Division 4 (3.86); and Manton’s boys, fifth in Division 4 (3.47).

CURLING

TRAVERSE CITY CURLING CLUB: The Traverse City Curling Club has two league nights left on its season schedule, June 23 (7:30 and 9:30 p.m. draws/games) and June 30 (7 and 9 p.m.) at Centre Ice Arena.
