The 45th race season kicked off Saturday night at Northern Michigan Dragway with more than 80 entries.

A pair of local racers grabbed the lion’s share of the money with their wins in the top money divisions.

In Bracket I, Mike Stokes of Kaleva raced a ‘72 Dodge Challenger to the victory over the ‘90 Camaro of Traverse City’s Mark Clark. Bracket II action found last season’s points champion, Gary Wood of Brethren, picking up where he left off. Wood took the class win with a new entry, an ‘83 AMC Spirit. Runner-up honors went to Rick Letts of Lake City with his ‘65 Chevelle.

Other main event winners included Street Trophy defending champion Gary Bowman of East Tawas taking a win in that division, while Harrison’s Dan Snyder pulled off the win in Pro Trophy.

In extra races, Early Gamblers winners were Phil Gunther of Beulah and Eric Johnson of Onekama, while Josh Patton of South Boardman finished off the night winning the Late Gamblers cash.
