TRAVERSE CITY — The Detroit Red Wings will open training camp at Centre ICE on Friday, Sept. 19, the team announced today.
Camp will continue through Tuesday, Sept. 23.
The Wings, who are in the midst of a youth movement, finished fourth in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division with a 39-28-15 record in 2013-14. Detroit lost to Boston in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Camp will feature the annual Red-White game, as well as an alumni game on Sept. 20. Rosters for the alumni game will be announced at a later date, but last year included GM Ken Holland, coach Mike Babcock, TV analyst and former 50-goal scorer Mickey Redmond, 2013 Hall of Fame inductee Chris Chelios and four-time Stanley Cup champions Kris Draper and Kirk Maltby.
The Training Camp Golf Classic will kick things off on Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. Proceeds will benefit Involved Citizens Enterprises (I.C.E.).
Meanwhile, the NHL Prospects Tournament will return for a 16th season, running from Friday, Sept. 12, through Tuesday, Sept. 16. The eight-team tournament will include the Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues.
The Red Wings won the tournament for the first time last fall. Six players from that team — Tomas Jurco, Alexey Marchenko, Xavier Ouellet, Teemu Pulkkinen, Riley Sheahan and Ryan Sproul — eventually saw action with the Red Wings last season.
Tickets for all events go on sale from noon to 4 p.m. at Centre ICE on Monday, July 7. Ticket prices for practice sessions are $10 for standing-room only, $15 for reserved seating and $20 for the mezzanine. Tickets for the Red-White game and Alumni-Celebrity game will start at $20 for standing-room only, $25 for reserved seating and $30 for the mezzanine.
