Glen Lake baseball falls in state semifinal

EAST LANSING — Austin Odziana's seventh-inning shot sailed a foot out of bounds in Glen Lake's best chance to get back into its Division 4 baseball semifinal contest.

The Lakers (32-3-1) fell 3-1 to New Lothrup (33-6).

In Glen Lake's final at-bat, Odziana came up to the plate with Tristan Williams and Thomas Waning on base and two outs.

He belted a line drive down the left-field line, which landed just foul. Had it fallen in fair territory, the game is likely tied.

Instead, it was over a pitch later.

Williams, who reached base in all four plate appearances, scored the Lakers' only run. He singled in the fourth inning and came home on Trevor Apsey's RBI double.

Glen Lake loses nine seniors after making the state semifinals for the second straight season. They'll have starters back in Odziana, Zach Cooper, Drake Hendershot and Travis Moore.
