JOLIET, Ill. — Adam Lewis singled home Adam Giacalone from third as Joliet got past Traverse City 4-3 in eight innings on Wednesday.
Lewis’s RBI base hit off Will Rankin gave the Slammers (10-12) their fourth straight win and snapped a three-game winning streak for the Beach Bums.
The contest was the first game of a doubleheader between the teams after Tuesday’s contest was postponed by rain. The second game was not completed by press time.
The game-winning hit was the second hit of the night for Lewis, who also had a double.
Traverse City led 3-2 after scoring two runs in the top of the fourth, but Joliet tied it in the bottom of the inning and the scheduled seven-inning game ultimately went to extra innings.
All three of the Beach Bums’ runs came off homers as Taylor Wrenn ripped a solo shot in the first inning and Chris Cowell hit a two-run homer in the fourth. Wrenn was 3 for 4 to lead the Bums (10-12).
Mike Devine started and scattered eight hits for Traverse City, striking out three before Rankin replaced him in the seventh.
