---- — Boyne Mountain hosts T of C

BOYNE FALLS — Boyne Mountain Resort will host the Tournament of Champions for the 22nd time July 29-31.

Each player in the field of over 100 golfers has won a Michigan major golf tournament or state title to earn the invitation to compete. The top 70 scorers and ties make the 36-hole cut and play the final round. The event is sanctioned and administered by the Michigan PGA.

Last year Jeff Roth, a former Flint and Detroit area golf professional who now lives in Farmington, New Mexico, and sometimes plays on the Champions Tour, won for a record-tying fifth time.

TC Bayhawks host lacrosse camp

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Bayhawks will hold a lacrosse camp July 29-Aug. 1 at the YMCA.

The camps costs $50 and includes a T-shirt. It runs from 6-8 p.m. daily and is open to players of all experience levels in grades 4-9.

AuSable Clean Up set for Sept. 7

GRAYLING — The 19th annual AuSable River Clean Up is set for Sept. 7.

Volunteers can meet at 9:45 a.m. at the Gates AuSable Lodge.

Kids fly fishing event is Aug. 10

GRAYLING — The inaugural Kids One Fly Box Challenge, an event designed to promote fly fishing among children, is scheduled for Aug. 10.

It runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gates AuSable Lodge.

Each participant will receive a free box of donated fly-fishing lures, and volunteer chaperones will be available for morning fishing experiences.

Pirates put Grilli in DL; release Inge

WASHINGTON — The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed National League saves leader Jason Grilli on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm strain.

The All-Star right hander is 0-1 with a 2.34 ERA and 30 saves. Manager Clint Hurdle said Mark Melancon (2-1, 0.97, two saves) will assume the closer’s role in Grilli’s absence.

Pittsburgh also designated infielder Brandon Inge for assignment.
