LELAND — Leland won both its matches in its “Dig Abby” triangular home volleyball match Thursday.
The Comets downed Charlevoix in three games and Northport in two during the night similar to many teams’ “Dig Pink” games that benefit breast cancer awareness.
Proceed for the “Dig Abby” night go to benefit the family of Leland eighth-grader Abby Gross, who has brain cancer.
“It was quite the community support,” Comets coach Laurie Glass said. “It was our biggest crowd of the year.”
Leland topped Charlevoix 23-25, 25-23, 16-14 — rallying from down eight to win the second game — and downed Northport 25-7, 25-23.
The Comets — who are off until a quad Wednesday at Suttons Bay that also features Traverse City St. Francis and Lake City — were led by Noa Yaakoby (14 kills, seven digs), Maddie Trumbull (12 kills), Whitney Schaub (25 digs), Caitlin McKee (five aces, 33 assists, 15 digs) and Felicia Whittaker (10 kills).

Traverse City Central wrapped up its junior varsity season by winning four of its last five games, finishing it off with a 42-7 win over Cadillac.
Devante Walker scored three touchdowns — on runs of 20, 1 and 58 yards — in the victory.
Nik Norton scored on a 25-yard touchdown run, Tyler Norton added a 1-yard TD run and Zach Mayo caught a 24-yard touchdown pass.
Nik Norton led the defense with 21 tackles, and Lukas McManus added 12 stops.
The Trojans end the season with a 4-5 record.

James Brumfield caught a pair of touchdown passes from Zach Girard-Pampu as Traverse City Central defeated Cadillac 24-0 in freshman football.
The win closes out Central’s season with a 6-2-1 record and 6-0 mark against Big North Conference foes.
Abe Russell added two rushing touchdowns and Jordan Ruckle intercepted a Cadillac pass.
