Pfannenstiel rallies to win invitational
Traverse City Central junior Kalina Pfannenstiel rallied in the final mile to win the girls race in the Traverse City Central Invitational.
Pfannenstiel passed Cheboygan’s Mandy Paull to claim the race in 20:09.68. Paull was second in 20:19.75.
“That’s a decent time on that course,” Central coach Lisa Taylor said of Pfannenstiel’s 20:09.68.
Mason County Central’s Zac Benham won the boys race in 16:35.77. Teammate Chase Barnett, coming off an injury, was second in 17:06.54.
Benham’s time set a 10th grade record at the invitational — one of four records on the day. Traverse City East’s Sielle Kearney broke the girls eighth grade 3200 mark with a time of 11:55.89. Teammate Paige Carrigan, who finished second, also came in ahead of the previous record in 12:07.50. Braiden Voss set a new mark in the boys sixth grade 1600 race in 5:39.07. East’s Leah Socks established a new record in the girls sixth grade race in 5:37.91.
