TRAVERSE CITY — The Vasa Ski Club will host the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour on Tuesday at the State Theatre — an event that will bring Alex Honnold, considered one of the world’s top free-climbers, to town.
The event, a fundraiser for the local youth Nordic ski programs, will run from 6-8:30 p.m.
The tour features the best action, environmental, and adventure films from the 2012 Banff Mountain Film Festival. It showcases the efforts and talents of some of the world’s best mountain filmmakers and highlights adventure sports like climbing, kayaking, alpine skiing and mountain expeditions. Traverse City will be the first of five stops in Michigan next week.
Honnold will be on hand to discuss the film that features his climbing. He recently free-climbed Yosemite’s Triple Crown — Mt. Watkins, El Capitan and Half Dome — in 18 hours.
“Alex is simply amazing,” Curt Peterson, program director, said.
The Vasa Ski Club will curate the program. Tickets are $10 and include an after-film reception with Honnold. Tickets are available online at www.banfftc.com or at Backcountry North and Oryana.
