ALPENA — Traverse City West made Friday's long hockey trip worthwhile.

The Titans came back from Alpena with a 4-1 Big North Conference over the Division 3 No. 9-ranked Wildcats.

"It was our most complete game of the year," West coach Jeremy Rintala said. "We got the forecheck going early and were able to get traffic out front and were able to bang a few home."

The Titans never trailed in the game, going up early on a John Linenger goal off a Jake Saxton assist 9:54 into the first period.

Nick Schultz and Saxton made it 3-0 after two periods, with Ryan Roehler, Jeff Linenger, Alec Carruth and Schultz drawing assists.

Ryan Basel tacked on a third-period goal off a Nick Featherstone assist.

Carter Edmondson made 21 saves for West, which outshot Alpena 39-22. West plays Traverse City Central next Wednesday.

"We're getting better and better and heading in the right direction," Rintala said.
