Roundup: Glads open with a win

KALKASKA — St. Francis kicked off its season on Saturday with a 82-58 win over Suttons Bay in the Northwest vs. Lake Michigan Conference Crossover Challenge at Kalkaska.

The Glads (1-0) led 34-12 at the half.

Byron Bullough led all scorers with 20 points while Kody Kleinrichert had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Austin Currie and Connor Archer each scored 11 points.

Suttons Bay had 15 points from Aaron Orban while Martin Stowe and Logan Mikesell each had 12 points.

In the JV game, St. Francis won 60-32. Josh Vanz had 25 points and Michael Olm added 12 points.


Grayling      56 Benzie Central      45

Grayling went on a 16-6 run in the third quarter for a 56-45 win over Benzie Central in the Northwest vs. Lake Michigan Conference Crossover Challenge.

"I give Benzie a lot of credit, they play hard," Vikings coach Rich Moffit said. "We like to run, but we had to grind that out."

The Huskies led 29-26 at the half before the Vikings (2-0) went on a run in the third quarter.

Jake Swander paced Grayling with 20 points and three assists. Scott Parkinson had 16 points and seven steals, Tyler McClanahan had 14 points and Justice Juntilla had seven rebounds.

Jared Weaver scored 15 points for the Huskies.

Kalkaska      48 Mesick      45

Host Kalkaska held on for a 48-45 win over Mesick in the Northwest vs. Lake Michigan Conference Crossover Challenge.

The Blazers (2-1) had 20 points from Caleb Gelinas while Marlon Reese had eight points and six rebounds.

Mesick had 24 points from Thane Herbert while Andre Whittaker had 14 points.

Kalkaska plays at St. Francis on Tuesday.

Dexter      62 TC Central      60

Dexter held off a late charge from host TC Central for a 62-60 victory.

The Dreadnaughts were in town for a pair of games after losing to TC West on Friday.

The Trojans (1-1) trailed by 10 points in the fourth quarter, but rallied and had a chance to tie or take the lead in the final minute.

Ethan Pilarski had 21 points, 11 rebounds and five steals for the Trojans while Taylor Cook scored 11 and Tanner Kenney had 10 points.

Dexter won the JV game 44-38. TC Central had 10 points from Jackson Schrameyer.

In the freshman game, Dexter won 40-30. The Trojans had eight points from David Klug.
