Prep Sports Roundup: Bialik posts 1K career points

MANISTEE — With 18 points in Wednesday's 58-36 Western Michigan D League win over Big Rapids Crossroads, Manistee Catholic Central's Zack Bialik surpassed 1,000 points for his career.

Bialik entered the game needing 16 points to break the milestone.

The Sabers (12-3, 11-1 WMDL) also had 12 points, seven rebounds and five steals from Andrew Perry, nine points and six assists from Alex Bialik, seven rebounds from Ben Feliczak and six steals from Joey Gamache.

Aaron Garlin had 11 points for Crossroads.

BOYS HOOPS

Forest Area      61 Onaway      59

Justin Burke hit three of four free throws in the fourth quarter to help Forest Area hold on for a 61-59 Ski Valley Conference victory over Onaway.

Onaway came into the fourth with a one-point lead, but the Warriors were able to pull into an eight-point lead at one point thereafter and hang on.

Tyler Birgy had 15 points and five rebounds, Chad Roberts chipped in 15 points, five steals and three assists, Austin Vance had 12 points eight boards and Burke finished with nine points and 12 rebounds for Forest Area (11-4, 9-3 SVC), which hosts Mancelona on Friday.

Joe O'Bradovich scored 21 and Carlos Batista 17 for the Cardinals.

Charlevoix      55 Suttons Bay      39

Tanner Catt scored a game-high 27 points to lead Charlevoix to a 55-39 non-conference win over Suttons Bay.

Charlie Hamilton added 11 for the Rayders.

Aaron Orban scored 12 to lead the Norsemen, who travel Friday to Buckley.

Charlevoix led 25-19 at halftime before the Norse pulled within two points in the third quarter, but the Rayders stormed back to hold a 46-31 lead after three.

Bellaire      78 Pellston      36

Bellaire moved to 14-0 on the season with a 78-36 Ski Valley Conference win over Pellston.

The Eagles (11-0 SVC) had 17 points from James Schrader while Denny Hall had 16 points, five steals and five assists. Drew Bailey had 13 points while Mitch Teetzel had nine points and 11 rebounds.

Tanner Keller led Pellston with 12 points while Austin Hamlin had nine points.

Bellaire is at Gaylord St. Mary on Friday.

Bear Lake      54 Mason Co. Eastern      50

Riley Merrill led Bear Lake to a 54-50 Western Michigan D League victory over Mason County Eastern.

Merrill scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Lakers, while Bryson Waller added 11 points and five boards and freshman Jordan Anderson chipped in seven points and four steals.

Bear Lake (6-7, 5-6 WMD) travels Friday to Big Rapids Crossroads Academy.

Central Lake      54 Ellsworth      37

Will Brockman scored a game-high 20 points to lead Central Lake to a 54-37 non-conference victory over Ellsworth.

Austin McMichael and Connor Zook scored nine each for the Trojans (3-11).

Nate Veldboom scored 12 points and Diamond McPherson 11 for the Lancers (4-8).

Petoskey frosh      43 St. Francis frosh      27

Petoskey stayed unbeaten with a 43-27 freshmen win over St. Francis.

The Northmen are 15-0 while the Glads are 7-6.

GIRLS HOOPS

TC St. Francis      64 Grayling      35

Traverse City St. Francis cruised to a 64-35 Lake Michigan Conference win over Grayling.

Liza Erickson scored 21 points to lead the Gladiators, while Lauren Buckel added 11. The Glads (15-2, 10-1 LMC) travel Friday to East Jordan.

Haley Whittaker scored 10 points to lead the Vikings.

St. Francis (6-11) won the JV game 42-37, as Lauren McDonnell scored 10 points and Suzanne Britten nine.

TCC freshmen     39 Northport      33

The TC Central freshmen picked up a 39-33 win over Northport's varsity squad.

The Trojans (14-1) had 12 points from Abby Green while Emily Jenkins and Sierra Fraser each scored 10 points.

HOCKEY

TC West      3 Cadillac      2

Max Jenner's hat trick powered Traverse City West to a 3-2 Big North Conference victory over Cadillac.

Jenner took a defenseman wide and skated in for a score with 38 seconds left for the win.

"It was a great game for Max," West coach Jeremy Rintala said.

Jenner deflected a John Linenger shot in the first period and scored off Linenger and Alec Carruth assists in the second as he notched a goal in each period. Nick Schultz also assisted on Jenner's first goal.

Cadillac's Tyler Thomas scored in the second period off a Spencer Graham set up and Josh Beard added a third-period goal on Graham and Thomas assists.

West goalie Carter Edmondson had 29 saves for the win, while Cadillac's P.J. Nemish stopped 31 shots.

"It's nice to get a nice, complete victory this close to the playoffs," Rintala said.

The Titans (8-12-3, 6-2-1 BNC) host Petoskey next Wednesday.
