Sabres eke out victory in OT

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City St. Francis' Byron Bullough knocked down eight 3-pointers to account for most of his game-high 30 points Friday in an 85-45 boys basketball Lake Michigan Conference win over East Jordan.

Bullough also had four steals.

Kody Kleinrichert registered 21 points and seven rebounds for the Gladiators (11-0, 6-0 LMC), who travel Tuesday to Elk Rapids for a game that has been moved up to 5:30 p.m. because of exams.

Jordan Weber led the Red Devils with 18 points.

BOYS HOOPS

Manistee Catholic      53 Baldwin      50

Ben Feliczak scored five of Manistee Catholic's six points in overtime as the Sabers handed Baldwin its first defeat of the year, 53-50.

With leading scorer Zack Bialik injuring his ankle early in the second quarter and not returning, Feliczak led Manistee CC with 19 points and seven rebounds.

The win also forced a four-way tie atop the Western Michigan D League with Bear Lake, Onekama and Baldwin. The Sabers (6-2, 5-1 WMD) host Frankfort on Monday and then travel Wednesday to Onekama.

Andrew Perry added 13 points and five rebounds for Manistee CC, Jesse Miller had six rebounds, three steals and three assists and Joey Gamache pitched in five assists and three steals.

Baldwin's Andon Ware scored 23 in the game to go over the career 1,000 mark.

Elk Rapids     58 Kalkaska     46

Elk Rapids had three players in double-digits for a 58-46 Lake Michigan Conference win over Kalkaska.

The Elks (6-4, 3-2 LMC) had 14 points from Shae Somers while Austin McMullen and Jesse Starr each had 12 points. Elk Rapids hosts St. Francis on Tuesday.

Will Nobel and Caleb Gelinas each scored 12 for the Blazers.

Charlevoix      60 Harbor Springs      50

Charlie Hamilton's 18 points paced Charlevoix to a 60-50 Lake Michigan Conference win over Harbor Springs.

The Rayders (6-2, 4-1 LMC) also had 14 points and six rebounds from Zach Hankins while Tanner Catt had 10 points and four assists.

Spencer Kloss had 15 points for the Rams while Neil Zoerhof scored 10.

Northport      72 Burt Lake NMCA      62

Northport took its time in a double-overtime 72-62 victory over Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian Academy.

Aaron Chatfield almost had a quadruple-double, racking up 27 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists and eight steals.

Jake Lovitt added 20 points and Robert Taylor grabbed eight rebounds for the Eagles (3-5).

GT Acadermy      58 TC Prep      20

Mitchell Drilling's 13 points sparked Grand Traverse Academy to a 58-20 win over Traverse City Prep.

Max Boothroyd added nine for the Mustangs (5-4).

Charlie Steffe led TC Prep with 10.

McBain NMC      77 Lake City      72

McBain Northern Michigan Christian senior wing Trevor Gernaat celebrated his 18th birthday in a big way, scoring 39 points as the Comets (5-4, 2-2 Highland) outlasted visiting Lake City 77-72 in double overtime.

NMC's Cade Ellens hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds to force the first overtime and teammate Andrew Dieterman tipped one in in the final seconds to force the second overtime.

Gernaat scored the final five points of the second overtime to rally the Comets from a 72-71 deficit with 32 seconds remaining. Matt Pluger put 15 on the board with nine rebounds for NMC and Mitch Perry hit for 10.

Junior Drew Marion scored 22 to lead Lake City (6-4, 2-3) before fouling out and senior Dan Liestenfeltz scored 18, going 4-for-5 from the line. Senior guard Ryan Vincent tallied 12.

GIRLS HOOPS

TC St. Francis      51 East Jordan      27

Traverse City St. Francis remained unbeaten in Lake Michigan Conference play with a 51-27 victory over East Jordan.

Liza Erickson led the Gladiators with 18 points and Kenzie Feeney added 10.

Val Peters led the Red Devils with nine points.

The Glads (10-1, 6-0 LMC) travel Monday to Elk Rapids.

Wolverine      30 GT Academy      28

Gabbie Ogden scored 15 points to account for half of Wolverine's scoring in a 30-28 overtime victory over Grand Traverse Academy.

Tiffany Wright led the Mustangs with 10 points and Dakota Morgan grabbed 11 rebounds.

GT Academy hosts Suttons Bay on Wednesday.

Kingsley      67 Buckley      27

Autumn Goggin had nine steals in Kingsley's 67-27 Northwest Conference win over Buckley.

Goggin also scored 13 points, while Amanda Youker chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds, Lilly Travis scored 11 and Katie Travis added nine points and six boards.

Buckley was led by Jordyn Barley with 10 points and nine rebounds, and Marlee Harris contributed seven points and three rebounds.

Kingsley (10-2, 7-0 NWC) hosts Frankfort next Friday, while the Bears (3-6) travel Monday to Suttons Bay.

Gaylord St. Mary      72 Forest Area      23

Kari Borowiak's 19 points paced Gaylord St. Mary in a 72-23 Ski Valley Conference win over Forest Area.

Borowiak added seven rebounds and six assists.

Christina Smith chipped in 14 points and seven assists, Mary Spyhalski 10 points and Rebekah Myler 11 points and six rebounds for the Snowbirds (11-2), who host Johannesburg-Lewiston on Tuesday.

Emily Gonyer had 10 points for the Warriors (1-7), who host Mesick on Tuesday.

Kalkaska      61 Elk Rapids      22

Kalkaska improved to 3-1 in Lake Michigan Conference play with a 61-22 win over Elk Rapids.

Kelli Guy led the Blazers with 26 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Tabitha Kibby added 13 points, four assists and three steals, while Taylor Birgy (six points, six rebounds, four steals), Taylor Kibby (eight steals) and Ellie Barber (five assists, three steals) also made significant contributions.

The Blazers (6-3, 3-1 LMC) host East Jordan on Tuesday.

Brittany Trout and Rachel Hintz led the Elks with four points apiece.

Onekama      54 Lake Leelanau SM      52

Onekama didn't lead until the final two minutes in a 54-52 win over Lake Leelanau St. Mary's.

Hailey Kott led the Portagers with 25 points.

Mary Rexroat scored 17 for St. Mary's, while Rachael Thon added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Lake Leelanau travels Monday to East Jordan.

Benzie Central      62 Mesick      33

Makayla Huddleston scored a career-high 21 points, hitting five 3-pointers, as Benzie Central posted a 62-33 Northwest Conference win over Mesick.

Jordan Nye added 13 for the Huskies (6-4, 4-1), who travel to Glen Lake next Friday.

Abby Trowbridge led Mesick (1-10, 0-6) with 17 points and eight rebounds. The Bulldogs are at Forest Area on Tuesday.

Glen Lake      34 Frankfort      29

Scotlyn Brengman's 19 points powered Glen Lake past Frankfort 34-29 in Northwest Conference play.

Brengman also had four rebounds and four steals. Jessica Lee added six points and five rebounds for the Lakers (9-3, 5-1). Maddy Brown pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

McKenna Kelly netted 11 points for Frankfort.

Leland      42 Suttons Bay      28

Freshman Libby Munoz, coach Megan Munoz's daughter, scored 18 points to pace Leland to a 42-28 Northwest Conference win over Suttons Bay.

Jane Hursey, coach Todd Hursey's daughter, led Suttons Bay (1-8) with 13 points.

Bellaire      48 Mancelona      26

Bellaire outscored Mancelona 19-3 in the third quarter to secure a 48-26 Ski Valley win.

The Eagles were ahead 23-14 at half before going on te 19-3 run.

Tiffany Clovis led Bellaire with 12 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Miranda Washburn added 10 points.

Mackenzie Willson netted 11 for Mancelona.

Johannesburg      63 Pellston      31

Johannesburg-Lewiston had 12 players score in a 63-31 Ski Valley win over Pellston.

Abby Schlicher led the Cardinals (12-0, 9-0) with 17 points, six steals and five rebounds.

Petoskey      62 Alpena      24

Kelsey Ance scored 24 points and Megan Tompkins added 16 points and six blocked shots as Petoskey rolled to a 62-24 Big North Conference win over Alpena.

The Northmen are 9-2 and 5-1 in the conference.

HOCKEY

TC West      5 Gaylord      0

Traverse City West scored a quartet of second-period goals in a 5-0 Big North Conference victory over Gaylord.

John Linenger and Max Jenner each had a goal and an assist for the Titans (5-10-1, 4-1-1 BNC), who travel today to Big Rapids.

Trevor Franklin, Nick Schultz and Keeler Steele had the Titans' other goals, while Colin Peters set up two goals and Luke Piotroski, Dan Henderson and Michael Lake also had assists.

West's Carter Edmondson made 12 saves for the shutout, while Pete Lawton stopped 42 shots for the Blue Devils.

Erik Anton made his return to the West lineup after missing 13 games after a bout with transverse myelitis left him temporarily paralyzed from the chest down. He played about a half dozen shifts, said West coach Jeremy Rintala.

"He almost scored a couple goals," Rintala said. "Lawton robbed him once. He fit right in. As he gets stronger, he'll play more."

Bay Reps      10 Mid-Michigan      1

The Bay Reps scored seven goals in the second period to win their third straight game with a 10-1 mercy win over the Mid-Michigan Storm.

The game was stopped after two periods.

Zack Bargy and Andrew Dzierwa each scored twice, with single goals coming from Nick Sicinski, Gavin Uitvlugt, Chase Joppich, Nate Wilson, Josh Hill and Zach Hill.

Carson Altonen, Joppich and Uitvlugt each picked up two assists, and solo helpers went to Josh Hill, Zach Hill, R.J. Denewith, Trevor Apsey, Scott Fisher, Bargy, Sicinski and Wilson.

Claire Huhta made six saves for the Reps, and Cameron McCumby saw his first action of the season, stopping three shots in the second period.

The Reps (7-10) host Petoskey tonight at 7 p.m.
