Lhamon, Wozniak capture singles titles
Kingsley's Ember Lhamon and Traverse City Central's Brad Wozniak won the Great Northwest Bowling Conference Holiday singles tournament at Lucky Jacks.
More than 70 high school bowlers competed in the annual tournament. Bowlers competed in a two-game qualifier before moving into a head-to-head single game elimination bracket.
Lhamon qualified as the fourth seed and progressed through the early round of the bracket with scores in the 150s, but got into a groove when it mattered, beating St. Francis' Bailey Johnson 181-126 to win the girls title.
Wozniak proved consistent in winning the boys title, beating Traverse City Christian's Brett Bultsma in the finals 159-154.
Wozniak had rolled games of 188, 180 and 178 in his three other bracket games. Bultsma reached the finals by coming off a 197 game.
St. Francis' Leah Schmerhiem had the girls high game during qualifying with a 231. She also led with a qualifying series of 392. Traverse City West's Jacob Noble led the boys with a 387 qualifying score.
Although Schmerhiem stole the show in the qualifying games, she would fall in the second round of the bracket finals. Traverse City Central's Samantha Mosley grabbed the early spotlight with games of 201 and 158 before finishing fourth on the day, falling in the consolation match to fellow Trojan Hope Eschleman.
