NORTHVILLE — Two youth running teams out of Traverse City are headed to the Junior Olympic Nationals in San Antonio after coming in first place at the Michigan Association Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Cass Benton Park in Northville.
The Traverse City Bay Runners midget team and youth team both won their divisions to earn a spot at the national meet. Two local individuals also qualified for nationals. The national meet is set for Dec. 14.
In addition to winning the team division, the Bay Runners had the first-place finishers in both divisions as Sielle Kearney took the 4K youth race (14:51) and Klaudia O’Malley won the 3K midget race (11:37). Traverse City’s Aubrie Deal was second in the midget race with a time of 11:48. Traverse City’s six runners all finished among the top 10, including Leah Socks (4th, 11:57), Annie Hunt (6th, 12:32), Carson Krecow (7th, 12:33) and Sidney Carrigan (9th, 12:41).
The TC youth team placed each of its runners within the top 16 as Paige Carrigan was third (15:26), Lily Cesario was sixth (15:49), Chloe Beyer took 10th (16:52), Emma Fifarek placed 11th (16:53), Grace Failor 13th (17:33), Autumn Amormino 14th (17:55) and Peyton Brooks 16th (18:48).
Individual national qualifiers included Abby Fifarek and Mady Basch.
