---- — Ferris names Bronkema coach

BIG RAPIDS — Ferris State has named McBain’s Andy Bronkema as its new men’s basketball coach.

Bronkema, a two-time collegiate All-America at Cornerstone University, has spent the past six seasons as an assistant coach at Ferris State, including the last three years as the program’s top assistant.

An introductory press conference is scheduled for Monday.

Bronkema has served as the program’s interim head coach since the May resignation of former head coach Bill Sall, who accepted the head coaching position at Northern Michigan.

Ferris State finished 14-13 last season, reaching the GLIAC postseason tournament for the eighth time in the last nine years. The Bulldogs return 11 players from that team.

Bronkema played football, basketball and baseball at McBain. He was part of 14 championship teams and helped the Ramblers to a state basketball title in 2002 in addition to a state football runner-up effort in 2001.
