HOUGHTON LAKE — Bellaire won the Northern Michigan Soccer League championship Thursday night with a 3-1 victory over Big Rapids Crossroads Academy.

The matchup of division champions saw the Eagles take a 2-1 lead at halftime on a pair of Denny Hall goals.

Hall completed the hat trick with 9:09 remaining to take a 3-1 lead.

Drew Emery had two assists and Hunter Rowe one.

Colin May and Carrick Conway led the Bellaire defense. Adam Crandall had eight saves in goal.

The Eagles (16-5) host Northport in district action Monday.

Burt Lake NMCA      6 McBain NMC      3

Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian Academy won the third-place game in the Northern Michigan Soccer League, posting a 6-3 victory over McBain Northern Michigan Christian.

Burt Lake built a 5-0 lead with 20 minutes left in the game behind five straight goals from Aaron Chatfield, which allowed the Eagles' senior to set the school record for goals in a season with 60, passing the previous mark set by his brother Nathan in 2004.

Jake Lovitt added a goal and two assists. Jeff Thompson, Ben Vinz and Chatfield each set up a score.

Robert Taylor, Andrew Vandeyacht, Vinz, John Bloswick and Josiah Fosmore led the defense for NMCA (13-9).

TC Central     4 Ogemaw Heights     2

Traverse City Central opened a 3-0 lead at the break en route to a 4-2 Big North Conference win at Ogemaw Heights.

The Trojans finished 8-1-3 in the league. They are 11-5-5 overall — 9-1-4 in their last 14 games — heading into next week's district.

Kalvis Hornburg, Jack Dulude and Taylor Cook tallied in the first half. Hornburger's goal came on a penalty kick. Grant Dulude assisted on his brother's goal. Jephte Jean-Claude had the assist on Cook's goal.

Reilly deTar made it 4-0 in the second half off an assist from Cook. Ogemaw Heights scored on two penalty kicks late.

Colin Lesoski and Carl Gardner shared goaltending duties.

TC Christian     2 Suttons Bay     0

Traverse City Christian capped an unbeaten Great Northwest season by beating Suttons Bay 2-0.

The Sabres (16-2, 14-0) had goals from Jon Tuck and Jacob Rorick. They outshot the Norsemen 13-0.

"Our backfield (Paul Bump, Dan Weber and Wesley Nelson) lit it up," coach Ron Christie said.

The Sabres host Reed City on Saturday.

Elk Rapids      8 Harbor Springs      0

Elk Rapids clinched at least a share of the Lake Michigan Conference championship with an 8-0 victory over Harbor Springs.

Austin McMullen and Spencer LaPointe scored two goals each to lead the Elks (14-4), who travel to Leland today and start district play Tuesday at Cheboygan.

Jesse Starr, Talon Felker, Miguel Alvarado and Garrett Koss each scored goals, while Alec Altonen, Kirk May and Ryan McChesney each set up two scores and Preston McDowell and Kam Johnson one.

Tim Barber made two saves in goal.

Benzie Central      2 Glen Lake      0

Benzie Central notched its first shutout of the season and first victory over Glen Lake in four years with a 2-0 win.

Andre Tierra and Janfried Wemken scored goals for the Huskies.

Paul Dumas recorded the shutout in goal, aided by the defense of Zach Perry.

Benzie (6-6-5) host Kalkaska in district play Tuesday.

VOLLEYBALL

St. Francis     3 Grayling     0

St. Francis swept Grayling 25-14, 25-23, 25-12 to raise its Lake Michigan Conference volleyball record to 9-0.

The Gladiators (27-4-3 overall) were paced by Bridget Bussell (16 kills, two blocks), Kaitlyn Hegewald (27 assists, seven aces, five kills), Megan Seida (three aces) and Olivia Hardy (four kills).

The St. Francis JV and freshman teams also won.

The Gladiators compete in a Mount Pleasant tournament Saturday.

Leland sweeps tri with GTA, Northport

Leland posted a 25-14, 25-17 win over GT Academy and beat Northport 25-15, 25-8 in a tri-meet.

The Comets (35-9-2) had 11 kills and three digs from Felicia Whittaker, five kills, four aces, 10 digs and three blocks from Andrea Hunt, two aces and 10 digs from Maggie Osorio, five aces from Annalise Robinson and three aces, 32 assists and seven digs from Caitlin McKee.

Leland's Brooke Olesnavage returned for the first time in several weeks. While she only played one game in each match, she finished with nine kills and nine aces.

Traverse City Christian swept a match from Glen Lake, 25-16, 25-15, 25-17.

The Sabres were led by Maddie White (five kills, four digs, four aces), Laura Murray (five kills, seven aces), Mikayla Brett (three kills), Amanda Ufer (five digs, one ace) and Lauren Webb (two aces, two digs).

TC Christian (15-22-6) plays Monday at Northport.

Stags sweep 2 matches

Kingsley swept matches from Manton and Manistee in a triangular match.

The Stags (35-8-5) defeated Manton 25-14, 25-13 and Manistee 25-3, 25-14.

Kingsley was led by Katie Travis (25 kills, three blocks, 11-11 serving), Andrea Lee (four kills, two blocks), Leah Hall (four kills, 43 assists, five aces), Lilly Travis (five kills, 15 digs, 22-22), Lindsey Weber (12 digs, 25-25) and Kenzie Meeker (three kills, two blocks, 9-9).

Elk Rapids     0

Boyne City moved to 10-3 in the Lake Michigan Conference with a 25-22, 25-23, 25-18 win over Elk Rapids.

The Ramblers (25-11-4 overall) were led by Heather Nichols (18 assists), Kylie Hicks (18 digs, 10 kills), Mary Meyers (18 digs) and Erin Baker (18 digs).]

CROSS COUNTRY

St. Francis girls win Manistee Invitational

St. Francis and Mason Country Central each scored 53 points, but the Glads girls won the Chris Grabowski Invite at Manistee on a tie-breaker.

The Glads won on their sixth runner — Annie Lyman — who finished 24th in 23:09 and just in front of two Mason County Central runners.

St. Francis freshman Holly Bullough was second (19:15.45), Lauren Buckel ninth (21:58.91), Maddy Danz 13th (22:13.62), Krissi Dressler 14th (22:15.35) and Erin McDonnell 20th (22:52.91).

Manistee's Annie Fuller was the overall winner in 19:07.34. Teammate Ashley Lindeman was third (20:11.01).

In the boys meet, Mason County Central won with 22 points.

The Glads had a medalist in Mark Mol, who finished 13th in 18:34.81. Connor Archer was 33rd (19:42.79), Nick Fisher 36th (19:46.85), Matt Mawby 47th (20:18.15) and Andy Fitzpatrick 53rd (20:27.44).

FOOTBALL

St. Francis JV     39 Glen Lake JV      12

St. Francis moved to 5-3 with a 39-12 JV win over Glen Lake.

Joe Trucco scored three touchdowns (10, 35, 62) for the Gladiators while Joe Summers, Jake Klinglesmith and Dylan Sheehy each had a touchdown.

Defensively, Ryan Armour led the way.

St. Francis led 21-6 at the half.

TC Central JV      40 Gaylord JV      0

TC Central's JV posted its third straight shutout in a 40-0 win over Gaylord.

The Trojans (6-1-1) had two interceptions from Sean Williams. Bronson Wood was the leading tackler behind Jake Lesoski and Keelan Lundwall.

Williams threw for three touchdowns. Anthony Kratovil scored twice while Tanner Schawnnecke, Drew Girard, Isaac Russell and Daniel Youker all had a touchdown.

TC Central plays Cadillac next week for the BNC JV title.

TC West JV      28 Ogemaw Hts. JV      28

Dan Phifer scored two touchdowns as Traverse City West tied Ogemaw Heights 28-28 in junior varsity action.

Phifer scored on a 15-yard touchdown run and caught a 35-yard pass from Jeff Turnquist, who also tossed a 35-yarder to Wes Talbot.

Justin Shafer had a 55-yard run for the Titans' other score.

Talbot added an interception on defense and Zack Schwert had a fumble recovery for West (3-4-1).

The Titan freshmen won 70-34.
