Bonis earns preseason CCHA honors
BIG RAPIDS — Former Traverse City North Star Kyle Bonis, now a senior forward at Ferris State, has earned preseason all-Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) honorable mention accolades.
Voting was conducted by the league's 11 head coaches, who could not vote for their own players.
Bonis, who was named to the 2012 Frozen Four All-Tournament Team as the Bulldogs reached the national championship game, placed third among Ferris State scoring leaders a season ago with 30 points. e had a squad second-best 19 goals and added 11 assists in playing all 43 contests.
TC 131s finish 9-1 in league
GRAND RAPIDS — The Traverse City 131s 13-under travel baseball team went 9-1 to finish atop the Grand Rapids Amatuer Baseball Fall League that concluded Sunday.
The team was led by the pitching of Dawson Rabb, Brett Hines, Jared Jackson and Cam Fewless and the hitting of Nick Brzezinski (.750), Gabe Callery (.500), Jake Ryan (.474), Hines (.429) and Jackson (.400). Hines and Rabb each had home runs, while combining to drive in 25 runs in the 10 games.
Registration on for YMCA hoops leagues
TRAVERSE CITY — Registration is underway for two YMCA basketball leagues.
The league for boys in grades 2-5 runs Saturday beginning on Nov. 10 and won't interfere with LEAP. Registration deadline is Nov. 1.
The men's fall/winter league runs from October through mid-March on Sunday through Thursday eveningns. There are many leagues at different levels of competition. Deadline is Oct. 10.

GT Resort hosts two tournaments
ACME — Grand Traverse Resort & Spa will close out the year with two fun tournaments.
The Big Hole event will be Oct. 14 on Spruce Run featuring 10-inch cups in a three-person scramble. The Tuff Enuff tourney is Oct. 21 at The Bear, playing on the course's toughest one-day setup in a two-person best ball format.
