---- — MUSKEGON — Andrew Chapman advanced to the semifinals of the 102nd Michigan Amateur on Friday, after defeating fellow Traverse City resident Nikolaj Brons-Piche 2 and 1, then topping Nate Golomb of Belmont 4 and 2 in his afternoon quarterfinal match at Muskegon Country Club.

Chapman, 33, will face Brad Bastion, 28, of Clinton Township in one semifinal on Saturday. Tom Gieselman, 51, from Commerce Township takes on Mike Ignasiak, 47, of Saline in the other semifinal matchup. All four golfers are semifinalists at the Amateur for the first time.

Chapman and the other three who advanced had to overcome their opponents as well as a two-and-a-half hour weather delay in Friday’s action.

“At this point anybody has as good a shot as anybody else,” said Chapman. “So for me, it’s taking my time, focusing on the shot at hand and taking care of business. I got a little ahead of myself on the back nine this afternoon and the next thing you know I went from a 5-up lead to 3-up.”

Bastion enters the semifinals after beating Casey Baker 2 and 1 and Nick Dennis 3 and 1.

Chapman, a Grand Blanc native who played golf at Michigan, didn’t mind the lengthy delay that came with the two victories.

“The delay didn’t bother me. It was kind of nice,” he said. “I just put my feet up and sat around for a couple of hours.

“I’m thrilled (to be in the semifinals). I guess I’m not surprised and I don’t mean that in a bad way. I got some breaks, and had some putts go in.”
