Prep Track Roundup: Trojans sweep Gaylord

TRAVERSE CITY — Savannah Champion was a champion Wednesday in Traverse City Central’s 120-44 Big North Conference win over Gaylord.

Champion, a sophomore, won the 300 hurdles — the first time she’s run that event — in 51 seconds.

The Trojans also picked up wins from Morgan Scollard in the 100 (13.38) and 200 (27.45), McKenna Beers in the 400 (1:03), Katie Moses in the 800 (2:25.36), Madyson Basch in the 1600 (5:28.10), Ashley Ko in the 3200 (11:36.87), Maddy Weatherholt in the 100 hurdles (18.51) Taylor Cobb in the discus (87’1”) and Graceanne Tarsa in the pole vault (9’).

Central swept the relays: Beers, Courtney Cadotte, Jessie Kushner and Scollard in the 400 (51.62) and 800 (1:51.11); Shannon Fiegel, Erin Lipp, Kushner and Brianna Worthington in the 1600 (4:33.75); and Jordan Mattarella, Hannah Keyser, Zoe Gerstle and Annie Botsford in the 3200 (10:48.60).

For Gaylord, Bailey Checks took the shot put (29’3.5”), Sofia Cabble the high jump (4’8”) and Casey Korte the long jump (16’6.75”).

Central boys roll, 120-44

Anthony Berry set another distance record Wednesday in Traverse City Central’s 120-44 Big North Conference win over Gaylord.

Berry broke the school’s sophomore record in the 3200 in 9:35.47. Travis Crawford had the previous best at 9:47 back in 1997. Berry holds the freshman mark, too, with a 9:45.3.

John Piatek was a double-winner for the Trojans, capturing the shot put (52’3.5”) and discus (153’).

Also taking first: Alex Hu in the 110 high hurdles (15.37), Josh Belcher in the 300 hurdles (40.99), Anthony Kratovil in the 100 (12.06), Marco Morcote in the 400 (54.9), Kyle Dotterrer in the 800 (2:03.96), Cam McAuliffe in the 1600 (4:35.21), Justin Cutler in the pole vault (11’), Taran Lutes in the long jump (19’3.75”), and Spencer Kroupa in the high jump (5’10”).

The Trojans swept the relays: Alex Liggett, John Williams, Lutes and Kratovil in the 400 (44.17); Belcher, Lutes, Forrest Lewallen and Hu in the 800 (1:36.3); Morcote, Tyler Sepanik, Kyle Barger and Zach Hankins in the 3200 (9:12.45).

Gaylord’s Collin Watters won the 200 (24.91). The Blue Devils also took the 1600 relay (3:48.07).

Central’s Devante Walker, Terrell Solberg, Rob Morse and Nic Norton set freshman records in the 400 (46.41) and 800 (1:37.57) relays.
