Bums add Wrenn, Rossi to infield
TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Beach Bums added to an already fairly loaded infield by signing shortstop Taylor Wrenn and infielder Drew Rossi.
Wrenn was TC’s starting shortstop last year, until he was signed away by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was let go by the Diamondbacks in spring training, and agreed to return to Traverse City, where he hit .288 with eight home runs, 15 doubles and 43 RBIs in 59 games.
Rossi also has some Frontier League experience. He hit .300 with six RBIs in 19 games with the Washington Wild Things in 2011 before playing briefly in the Cam-Am League in 2012. The 5-9, 150-pound Rossie also pitched in four games for the Wild Things.
He was signed by the Washington Nationals and assigned to the Class A Auburn Doubledays, but didn’t appear in a game before being released.
The Beach Bums already have former Frontier League MVP Jose Vargas at third base, acquired All-Star third baseman Jovan Rosa in an off-season trade and signed second baseman Rob Benedict, who hit .263 and stole seven bases in 19 games with New Jersey of the Can-Am League last year.
