FRANKFORT — Bear Lake won two incredibly tight games to open up a three-game sweep of Forest Area and win a Class D district championship at Frankfort.
The Lakers won 27-25, 26-24, 25-18 over the Warriors to claim their first district crown since 2005.
"Forest Area is an awesome team," Bear Lake coach Amy Falk said. "We played them in a tournament last week and lost. We knew we were going to have to be on our toes for every single point."
The Lakers (29-18) move on to face Leland in regional play Tuesday at Buckley.
"We had leads," Forest Area coach Rom Stremlow said of the first two games. "They just came back. Give them credit. They did what they had to do."
Bear Lake was led by Emileigh Ferguson (20 service points, three aces, 11 kills), Katie Millard (eight points, three aces), Erika Hejl (19 assists) and McKenna Fink (11 assists).
Forest Area — which finishes the season 23-20-4 — was paced by Tabitha Cecil (15 kills, two blocks, eight digs), Alyssa Birgy (nine digs, five aces) and Dani Johne (15 assists).
