GAYLORD — Traverse City Central put four runners in the top six of the cross country all-league team for the first time in the Big North Conference’s 17-year history.
The Trojan boys accomplished the feat Tuesday in the league’s third and final jamboree — which counted double in the standings — at the Gaylord Country Club.
Four teams had previously put four runners in the top seven.
Central also had the top three runners for the third time in BNC history, joining the 2004 Petoskey Northmen and 2008 Trojans as the only others to accomplish it.
Central won the jamboree with 28 team points, followed by TC West (49), Alpena (100), Petoskey (117), Cadillac (118), Gaylord (122) and Ogemaw Heights (189) to bring back the BNC crown for the second straight year and eighth in 17 seasons.
Senior Kyle Dotterrer was the top overall finisher at 16:38.6 as the Trojans’ top three were all within 0.8 seconds.
Junior Cam McAuliffe was second at 16:39.3 and sophomore Anthony Berry third in 16:39.4. Junior Keifer Edwards was ninth in 17:27 to take the sixth spot on the all-league team. Central’s other top finishers were Tyler Sepanik (13th in 17:35), Graham Bevier (17th in 17:43) and Blake Beyer (25th in 18:08).
The other runners on the all-conference team included TC West’s Nick Hirschenberger in the fourth spot, Cadillac’s Phillip Merrell fifth and Gaylord’s Sterling McPherson with the final first-team spot. The second-team consisted in order from eighth to 14th of West’s Joe Hughes, Alpena’s Mitch Day, Petoskey’s Mark Smith, West’s Jimmy Seekamp, Cadillac’s Trevor Thiebaut, West’s Nick Amato and Alpena’s Elisha Martin.
