Traverse City Record-Eagle

---- — TRAVERSE CITY — A longtime fixture in the heart of the Traverse City Beach Bums lineup is gone.

The Beach Bums traded first baseman Chase Burch to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the American Association for a player to be named later and other considerations. Burch spent the past four seasons with Traverse City, becoming the franchise’s all-time leader in several offensive categories.

The 27-year-old led the Beach Bums with home runs and RBI in 2013, going deep 15 times and driving in 66 runs. The slugging first baseman also went on a surge in the playoffs, swinging a team leading .438 with four home runs and six RBI.

On Sept. 19, Burch posted on Facebook, “My time in Traverse City has officially come to an end. I want to thank everyone that made my time there so amazing.”

The Montgomery, Ala., native returns to the same league he began his professional career. Burch broke into pro ball in 2009 with the Penascola Pelicans.

One year later Chase joined the Beach Bums for his most productive year professionally. Burch slugged 19 homers in 2010 with 88 runs batted in. He went on to become a powerful bat in the Traverse City lineup the next four years, becoming the Beach Bums all-time leader in games played (370), at-bats (1319), runs scored (243), home runs (68) and RBI (285).
