---- — BCAM’s Best hoop teams unveiled

LANSING — The Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan unveiled its postseason awards, and a bevy of area honorees were included.

In the boys BCAM’S Best All-State teams, Grayling’s Scott Parkinson and Cadillac’s Jalen Brooks were selected in Class B, Traverse City St. Francis’ Kody Kleinerichert and Boyne City’s Corey Redman in Class C, and Bellaire’s Denny Hall and Frankfort’s David Loney in Class D.

Earning special mention honors were Traverse City West’s Jeremiah Williams and Petoskey’s Erik Davenport in Class A, Kalkaska’s Caleb Gelinas and Cadillac’s Nick Paquet in Class B, Mancelona’s Brandon Dingman and St. Francis’ Damon Sheehy in Class C and Traverse City Christian’s Kris Crosby, Bellaire’s Mitch Teetzel and Boyne Falls’ Marcus Matelski in Class D.

In girls hoops, Kalkaska’s Kelli Guy was selected to the BCAM’s Best in Class B, while McBain’s Meredith Hamlet was tabbed in Class C and Gaylord St. Mary’s Kari Borowiak and Christina Smith and Bear Lake’s Emileigh Ferguson earned Class D nods.

Drawing special mention honors were Petoskey’s Kelsey Ance and Megan Tompkins in Class A, Manistee’s Annie Fuller and Emilee Kott, Kalkaska’s Tabitha Kibby and Benzie Central’s Jordan Nye in Class B, Glen Lake’s Scotlyn Brengman and Jordan Peplinski, TC St. Francis’ Liza Erickson and Johannesburg-Lewiston’s Abby Schlicher in Class C and Manistee Catholic’s Haley Doyle, Frankfort’s McKenna Kelly, Bear Lake’s Hannah Harrington, Leland’s Libby Munoz and Brethren’s Lexi Lakso in Class D.

Grouse Society Trial in Mesick

MESICK — The LeGrand Traverse Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society will host a Spring Fun Trial on May 5 in Mesick.

The event will be held at Thundering Aspens Hunting Preserve (4612A N. 5 Road) at 8 a.m., rain or shine.

The entry fee is $45 per pointing and/or flushing breeds, with each running on the same course with the same judges. All registrants must be a RGS member to participate. Memberships will be available on site. The contest is limited to the first 34 entries and all entries must be submitted no later then April 25. Entry fee includes lunch.

TC Central sailors open up season

BELMONT, Ill. — With being able to practice due to weather conditions, Traverse City Central’s sailing team competed in the High School Invitational Team Race near Chicago.

The Trojans came back with a record of 4-10 in 14 races in its first action of the season over the weekend. Central placed eighth out of 10 teams.

The four area teams — TC Central, TC West, TC St. Francis and Glen Lake — are planning to put docks in today at 4 p.m. if the ice clears out. Interested volunteers can call 620-0928 for more information.

Boater safety class offered

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering a boater safety class on April 16 and 20.

About Boating Safety is an eight-hour class taught in two sessions for students 12 and older. Topics covered include boating safety and safety equipment, emergency procedures, navigation rules and aids, boating regulations and charting. Students must attend two sessions: April 16 from 5:30-9 p.m. and April 20, from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Cost is $10 to cover cost of book and certificate, and the class will be held at First Congregational Church at 6105 Center Rd. in Traverse City. Pre-register by calling Dianne Walker at 941-8076 by April 15
