Kalkaska, GTA move up a class

TRAVERSE CITY — Kalkaska and Grand Traverse Academy will be moving up a class next school year in basketball and girls volleyball.

Kalkaska will jump to Class B and Grand Traverse Academy to Class C.

In addition, Rogers City will move up to Class C.

Northern Michigan schools dropping down: Mason County Central to Class C, Mio and St. Ignace to Class D.

The enrollment breaks are: Class A — 882-over, Class B — 424-881, Class C — 215-423, and Class D — 214-under.

Junior golf sign-up continues

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Junior Golf Association (TCJGA) sign up for upcoming lessons, on-course instruction and tournament programs is underway and will continue until early June.

Boys and girls ages 5 years and older can sign-up on-line at www.tcjga.com. Lessons begin the first week of May, after school and evenings, and will continue until July. Tournament play and on-course instruction begins when school is out in June.

Volleyball combine set for April 13

TRAVERSE CITY — The Michigan Prep Volleyball Combine will be held at Traverse City Central on Sunday, April 13.

All high school student-athletes who are interested in playing volleyball at the collegiate level can find out more details and register by visiting childresssports.com/volleyball-combine/.

 

Snow Challenge April 5-6 at Schuss

BELLAIRE — The sixth annual Schuss Mountain Snow Challenge, which transforms the late-season slopes into side-by-side uphill truck racing, will be held 5-6.

The event brings in more than 200 competitors with a portion of the proceeds donated to Michigan’s Disabled American Veterans. It’s a collaborative event between GRZ Productions and Shanty Creek Resorts.

The event will use three ski slopes, including Kingdom Come, which boasts 450 vertical feet. Racers can choose among seven tire classes, ranging from two Sportsman’s classes to accommodate the everyday driver up to the SuperModified and Nitrous classes.
