The Traverse City Breakers’ top swimmers attended the Michigan 13-and-over state championship meet in Zeeland, earning one sectional cut, three zone cuts and a NCSA Junior cut.
Julia Brunner was the Breakers’ top performer on the day. She earned a seventh place finish in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 59.09, a sectional cut and second place finish in 200 Freestyle (1:54.84), an NCSA Junior cut third place finish in the 100 Butterfly, a sixth place finish and a new team record in the 50 Freestyle (24.65), an eighth place in the 500 Freestyle (5:15.91), and first place in the 200 Butterfly (2:07.27), which was a personal best time.
Paige Carrigan shaved two seconds from her time in the 100 Backstroke (1:10.12) and secured a Zone time for the 13-14 year old age group and 15th place overall. Carrigan also swam her way to a Zone cut in the 200 Freestyle (2:13.23), 200 Backstroke and 100 Freestyle. Emily Jameson earned a Sectional cut in the 100 Backstroke. Both Jameson and Shad Soldano recorded personal bests in the 200 Backstroke.
The younger Breakers competed at the 2014 Michigan Swimming 12-and under Short Course State Championship meet at Oakland University. Swimmers Leah Timmer, Avery McLean, Mady McLean, Claire Bongiorno and Mally Ulatowski represented the Traverse City team. This short course meet was a first for the five girls who attended and marked the end of the 2014 short course season.
RED WINGS: Detoit has signed forward Colin Campbell to a two-way, entry-level deal.
The move was announced Monday.
Red Wings general manager Ken Holland says the 6-foot-1, 203-pound, hard-hitting Campbell will spend the rest of this season with the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins.
Campbell had 14 goals and 29 points this season as a senior for Lake Superior State. He is from Pickering, Ontario.
