Cadaret brings experience to TC

TRAVERSE CITY — There will be a little Tacoma Tigers reunion in the Traverse City Beach Bums dugout this season.

When the team hired pitching coach Greg Cadaret earlier this week, it brought together two former Tacoma teammates.

Cadaret was a young pitcher for the Tigers in the AAA Pacific Coast League, while current TC manager Dan Rohn was a veteran infielder.

A 10-year Major League Baseball veteran who has been in baseball in a variety of roles since retiring after the 1998 season, Cadaret steps in for former TC manager Gregg Langbehn, who also handled the team’s pitchers.

“He was a veteran, and I was a rookie coming through there,” Cadaret said of Rohn. “We were only there (together) for a couple weeks, but Dan was very welcoming and helped settle the rookie down and stuff. He was always very professional and a class act. It makes this easier for me to be doing this with an experienced manager.”

The Traverse City post will also be Cadaret’s first full-time pitching coach gig.

Since leaving the game as a player, he’s worked in a variety of baseball roles.

He’s coached at the American Legion, high school and college levels, in addition to running and managing the Redding Colt .45s in Redding, California. The Colt .45s are part of a college summer league.

“This one, I get to focus on pitching a lot more,” Cadaret said. “When I managed the Outlaws, you had to sign the players, negotiate the contracts, be the travel secretary for the buses and hotel room and stuff like that. I’m looking forward to just being the pitching coach here. It was the same thing with the 45s. You end up doing everything from running the concession stand to selling tickets. So this is like a vacation.”
