Prep Sports Roundup: Central knocks Petoskey out of lead

Onaway jumped out to a 19-4 first quarter lead en route to a 63-12 Ski Valley Conference win over Mancelona.

Kallie Shimel paced the Cardinals (10-4, 8-4) with 17 points. Mariah Ehrke added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Onaway is at Inland Lakes on Thursday.

Inland Lakes 71

Forest Area 45

Inland Lakes hit nine 3-pointers in pulling away to a 71-45 Ski Valley win over Forest Area.

Sandra Bischoff led the Bulldogs with 22 points.

Emily Gonyer’s 12 points and four steals paced Forest Area. Lindsey Czuk chipped 10 points and eight rebounds. Kortni Birgy pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.

Central Lake 53

Pellston 34

Central Lake, down 21-20 at half, outscored Pellston 33-13 in the second half for a 53-34 Ski Valley win.

Lauren Rogers paced the Trojans (7-5, 5-4) with 15 points. Jaynee Mortensen, who missed several games with a concussion, added 13 points. She had 10 in the fourth quarter.

Central Lake hosts Mancelona on Thursday.

MC Eastern 39

Down nine in the third quarter, Manistee Catholic rallied for a 41-39 West Michigan D win over Mason County Eastern.

Haley Doyle’s 13 points, 12 rebounds and six assists powered the Sabers (12-1, 9-0). Alysha Heck added 11 points and nine rebounds. Elena Luce scored 26 points for Mason County Eastern, eclipsing 1,000 career points in the process.

Catholic hosts Brethren on Thursday.


Kingsley edges SF, falls to Grayling

Kingsley split a pair of duals, beating St. Francis 36-33 and losing to Grayling 37-16.

Dave Bruner at 103 and Brian Lark at 189 posted two wins apiece for Kingsley.

Mancelona’s Meadows earns 100th win

Michael Meadows went 2-0 on the night, registering his 100th career win in the process, as Mancelona split a pair of matches, losing to Gaylord 42-30 and beating Boyne City 41-25.

Michael Burroughs at 160 and Keegan Richardson at 285 also went 2-0 for the Ironmen.

Finishing 1-1 were Cody Fuller at 103, Noah Burroughs at 112, Caleb Nygren at 119, Noah McDaniel at 125, Tevin Nygren at 152 and Tristan Waters at 215.
