Prep Sports Roundup: Central knocks Petoskey out of lead


Kelsey Ance netted 16 points and Megan Tompkins 11 for Petoskey (12-2), which is at Traverse City Central on Friday.

Sydney Carlson led Charlevoix with 13.

Kingsley 58

Mesick 35

Kingsley ran its Northwest Conference record to 8-0 with a 58-35 win over Mesick.

Autumn Goggin powered Kingsley (12-2 overall) with 21 points. Amanda Youker added 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Gabby Kline netted 12 points for Mesick.

Kingsley is at Suttons Bay on Thursday.

Glen Lake 65

Suttons Bay 23

Glen Lake moved closer to a showdown date with Kingsley by beating Suttons Bay 65-23 in a Northwest Conference contest.

The Lakers (11-3, 6-1) travel to league-leading Kingsley next Tuesday.

Scotlyn Brengman paced Glen Lake in its win over the Norse with a doubledouble. She finished with 28 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and three assists. Katie Stowe added 14 points and Jordan Peplinski nine points and five rebounds. Delaney Kaufman netted six points for Suttons Bay.

Glen Lake travels to Buckley on Thursday.

Frankfort 54

Buckley 37

Youth was served Tuesday night.

Two freshmen, McKenna Kelly and Anna Hunt, combined for 28 points in Frankfort’s 54-37 Northwest Conference win over Buckley. Kelly had 17 points, five rebounds, five steals and five assists. Hunt added 11 points. Kristin Smeltzer contributed nine for the Panthers (6-6, 5-2), who outscored Buckley 18-7 in the third quarter to pull away after leading 27-16 at half.

Bailee Kuhn’s 11 points topped Buckley.

Frankfort hosts Benzie Central on Thursday.

Leland 30

Jordan Nye tossed in 15 points as Benzie Central defeated Leland 38-30 in Northwest Conference play.

Mary Warsecke added 10 points for the Huskies.

Libby Munoz paced Leland with 10 points.

Johannesburg 46

Bellaire 31

Abby Schlicher scored 13 points and Brittany Cherwinski 10 as JohannesburgLewiston beat Bellaire 46-31 in a Ski Valley Conference game.

Schlicher also had six rebounds, four blocks, three assists and three steals. Cherwinski grabbed five rebounds for the Cardinals (14-1, 11-1).

Katie Thornton led the Eagles (8-4 in the league) with 14 points, four assists and three rebounds. Miranda Washburn added 10 points.
