Snowshoe Stampede slated for Feb. 15

MAPLE CITY — The second annual Snowshoe Stampede will be held at the Leelanau Outdoor Center on Feb. 15.

The 5K race and one-mile Snowflake Race (for 12 and under) both start at 10:30 a.m. A $20 registration fee includes lunch. Rentals will be available onsite for an additional fee. Net proceeds benefit Tuition Assistance program at the Leelanau Outdoor Center for schools to attend LOC programs.

TC’s Brunner places in swimming regional

INDIANAPOLIS — Traverse City Breakers swimmer Julia Brunner rung up top-three finishes in five events while competing for Team Michigan at the Mid-States Quadrangular Championships in Indianapolis.

The age group meet brought together the top four swimmers in each event from Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.

Brunner, swimming in the girls 13-14 division, won the 200-yard butterfly and was a member of Michigan’s winning 200 medley relay. She touched the wall second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 200 freestyle, and was a member of Michigan’s 200 freestyle relay that placed second behind Indiana.

She also placed 11th in the 200 individual medley and 12th in the 50 freestyle.


Benzie Co. offers snowmobile class

BEULAH — Benzie County will be offering a snowmobile safety class on Jan. 25.

The 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. event will be held at the Benzie County Sheriff’s office at 505 S. Michigan Ave.
