Prep Sports Roundup: Bellaire wins battle of unbeatens

In a battle of undefeated boys basketball teams, Bellaire got a big fourth-quarter showing from two seniors to defeat Hillman 59-50 on Friday night.

James Schrader scored 10 of his game-high 23 points in the fourth, while Hunter Walsh added seven of his 10 in the last period. Bellaire (4-0) outscored Hillman (4-1) 26-12 in the final period to overcome a 38-33 deficit heading into the last eight minutes.

Denny Hall contributed nine points, six assists and a team-leading 12 boards for Bellaire, which led 25-24 at the half of a back-and-forth game.

Hillman was led by Brendan Zimmer's 13 points, Mason VanPamel's 11 and 10 from Ty Jones.

Bellaire travels to Inland Lakes on Tuesday.



TC West 63

Ogemaw Heights 41

Traverse City West led 13-4 after one period and 31-14 at the half in cruising past Ogemaw Heights 63-41.

Deion Dyal and Stephan Sheppard each scored 14 points for West (2-5). K.J. Sayer chipped in with 12 points for the Titans, who play at Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern today.

In the junior varsity game, Traverse City West improved to 7-0 with a 71-27 victory over Ogemaw Heights.

Jamie McFarlane led the Titans with 13 points and Chase Grierson chipped in with 11 points.


Mancelona 59

Ellsworth 31

Brandon Dingman poured in 28 points to lead Mancelona to a 59-31 victory over Ellsworth.

Dingman also added four assists and two steals in the win. Logan Borst chipped in with 10 points, five assists and four steals, while Justin Spires had eight points and five rebounds for the Ironmen (3-1).

Nathaniel Feldboom had nine points for Ellsworth.


Alpena 63

Elk Rapids 52

Alpena held Elk Rapids to six points in the fourth quarter in a 63-52 win over the Elks.

Elk Rapids (3-2) led 17-12 after one period and 29-27 at the half, but the Elks' struggles on the perimeter — they only hit one three-pointer and had 35 of their points from their post players — proved to be their downfall.
