Prep Sports Roundup: Titans fall to Alpena

— TRAVERSE CITY — Alpena’s 2-1 Big North Conference victory Saturday over Traverse City West puts the league’s early race back up in the air.

“We kind of controlled our own destiny,” Titans coach Jeremy Rintala said. “But not really any more.”

The Wildcats scored on a 5-on-3 power play in the second period to take a 2-1 lead.

West (3-5, 2-1 BNC) scored first on a Jake Saxton rebound goal set up by Ty Vadeboncoeur and John Linenger.

Tyler Buchanan started in goal and made 13 saves for West, which returns to action at 6 p.m. Thursday against Saginaw Heritage in the first round of the Scott Miller Memorial Tournament at Centre ICE.



Grosse Pte. South 5

Bay Reps 0

Grosse Pointe South shut out the Bay Reps 5-0 in a non-league game Saturday.

Jay Jones made 13 saves for the Reps (2-4), who return to action Thursday against Plymouth Salem at 6:15 p.m. in the Scott Miller Memorial Tournament at Centre ICE.

TC Hounds 7

Soo 1

Kevin Miloser continued his high-scoring ways. The Brighton native had two goals and three assists to give him 11 points in his first nine game in a Traverse City Hounds inform.

The Hounds routed the Soo 7-1 Saturday to avenge Friday’s overtime loss.

Premsyl Synek, Cam Fisher, Kenny Simmons, Patrick Rogowski and Alex DeVries also had goals for the Hounds, and David Krejcik made 42 saves on 43 shots.



Priante 5-0 for West at Gull Lake

Vincent Priante was Traverse City West’s sole 5-0 wrestler as the Titans competed in the Gull Lake Invitational.

Priante was undefeated while wrestling at both 103 and 112 pounds in the team tourney.

The Titans defeated Benton Harbor 66-12 and dropped matches to Mason County Central, St. Joseph, Paw Paw and Monroe Jefferson.

Caleb Harris (103/112) and Jake Draper (171) were 3-2 for the day fro West, while Tyler Post (119/125), Drew Hammer (135), Zac Provost (160) and James Peck (189/215) each had a pair of victories.

West hosts the Grand Traverse County Classic on Dec. 29, featuring 15 local teams among 17 squaring off beginning at 9 a.m.



TC St. Francis 75

McBain 70

Traverse City St. Francis withstood two runs by McBain to hold on for a 75-70 non-conference victory.

The Gladiators led 18-5 before the Ramblers stormed back to knot it up at 32 all by halftime. The Glads then jumped out to a 10-point lead going into the fourth. McBain responded with a 27-point final stanza, but St. Francis (1-2) was able to escape with its first victory.

Noah Phillips had 31 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks to pace the Glads, while Byron Bullough added 27 points, four assists and six rebounds.

McBain was led by 18 points by Cole Powell, 12 from Triston Wilson and 11 by Grant Gugle.

St. Francis won the JV matchup 56-45 behind 25 points from Marek Laucky.

Chris Kolarevic’s 12 points led Traverse City St. Francis to a 61-21 freshman basketball victory over McBain.

Matt Bloom and Matt Brown added nine points each for the Gladiators (1-2).
