Sophomore Jared Ritter scored the game-tying basket in the final seconds of regulation, then added another last-gasp shot in the first overtime and Glen Lake went on to beat Manistee 56-52 in a double overtime thriller on Thursday.
Ritter, a sophomore, scored both buckets on turnaround jumpers, the first with four seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and the second with three seconds to go in overtime to keep Glen Lake’s hopes alive before the Lakers squeaked out the hard-fought game in the second extra session. Ritter finished with 19 points for the Lakers (3-2). Matt Ewing added 13 points for Glen Lake.
Free throw shooting could have allowed Glen Lake to avoid having to play the overtimes altogether. The Lakers converted on 11 of 35 tries from the stripe.
Manistee’s Alex Bialik led all scorers with 24 points.
TC Christian 59
Traverse City Christian used a fast start to get its first victory of the year, beating Leland 59-46.
Christian (1-3) jumped out to a 20-8 lead after one period and led comfortably the rest of the way.
Kris Crosby led the Sabres with 23 points, while Ben Larkins added 10 points and 13 rebounds. David Bump had eight rebounds and six assists.
For Leland (2-3), Tyler LeVeque had 21 points and Austin Fellows 11 points.
Forest Area 70
Cody Schelski’s only basket of the game came with six seconds left in regulation and forced overtime, where Forest Area triumphed 70-66 over Johannesburg-Lewiston.
The Warriors (3-1) came back from a six-point halftime deficit to go ahead by one after three quarters, then managed to pull it out in the last 13 minutes.
Justin Burke led Forest Area with 29 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Chris Birgy added 15 points, Trevor Vance 11 points and Austin Vance had 10 points, six assists and five blocks.
Logan Huff led Joburg with 22 points.
